RACE RAMP - Important - Need Input

I just received an email from Reverse Logic in regard to Race Ramps and clearance issues with the Race Ramp offerings and the 370Z. Please read and input your thoughts here as Fred at Reverse Logic is monitoring. IF there is enough interest there just may be a new Race Ramp offering that will work well with 370's that have clearance issues with current Race Ramps. Please read and reply. Thanks!

Bill -

You were one of my first customers to purchase the RR-56-2 Race Ramps for your 370Z. Although you have not reported any problems with the 10.75 degree incline I have noted several other forum members lamenting that the ramps are too steep and that the Xtenders were too expensive relative to the base price of the 2-pc 56" ramps.

Several months ago I asked Brute Industries to consider making 2-piece 56" and 67" ramps with an integrated Xtender. A 10" high one-piece ramp with an integrated Xtender would be a shipping and handling nightmare since it would be over 7' in length. But in my judgment the 2-piece design with a 2-stage incline should be a welcome addition to the range of ramps currently available.

I have asked the manufacturer to consider the following three designs.

1) Two-piece 10" high ramp. Uses same front section as current 67" ramp. The total length of the ramp would be about 87". The back section would have a 6.8 degree incline and would be about 63" long.

2) Two-piece 8" high ramp. Uses same front section as current 56" ramp. The total length of the ramp would be about 72". The back section would have a 6.8 degree incline and would be about 47" long.

3) One piece 7" high ramp. The length of the ramp would be about 64" and the 6.8 degree incline would be about 32" long before transitioning to a 10.75 degree incline.

Of the three designs, I am the least enthusiastic about the third one. I am concerned that the 7" height will be insufficient. And even more importantly, the ratio of my sales of the 2-pc to 1-pc ramps is 20 to 1. So there just is not that much interest in 1-piece ramps.

I think the 2-pc 8" high ramp with the 2-stage 6.8 degree and 10.75 degree incline is the best choice for me to test market the design. Since this is not a product in the Brute Industries catalog, I would have to commit to a significant quantity in order to negotiate a reasonable price. Brute Industries did agree that all three designs are feasible and will make them for me as a "custom" ramp.

I value your opinion and would appreciate your feedback. Do you think there would be an enthusiastic reception for the 2-pc 8" high ramp that I described above?

Yeah, I might be Fred's latest customer to have bought the 67" ramps only to test them out and finding out I need the XTenders...my car is lowered by just over 1/2 ". That made for a VERY pricey set of ramps. If I knew beforehand that I needed the XTenders to make the ramps work, I likely would not have bought Race Ramps. As nice as they are, $450+ for ramps is over the top. I could have bought a set of Rhino ramps for $30 and made my own extenders.

Integrating the XTenders into an existing 67" 2 piece design (design #1) is a great idea, so long as the cost of that is reasonable. I think it's good to have no less than 10" of clearance, otherwise there isn't enough room to work underneath the vehicle. That's my opinion anyway.

I contacted Fred a few weeks ago to get a quote on the 67" ramps with Xtenders for my Nismo. While I really like the ramps, I have held off on the purchase because the cost is rather high (sorry Fred). However, if you can do option 1 (the extra 2" in height over option 2 is worth it) at a more cost effective price, I would definitely buy these ramps from Fred.
Thanx,
Jim

I was cosidering a set as well at some point but have been using my old Takata ramps for now. I'm glad to see a NISMO owner chiming in too since the facia is a little longer. Subscribed for the outcome.

Are we talking about NISMOs here? I have a Sport/Touring Z and have NO clearence issues at all with my 56" 2-piece Race Ramps. These things are awesome...worth every cent!

BTW, if you do the yardstick test on the Race Ramps site you can deterime which ramps work for you.

I also have a Z with Sport and Touring packages and have no clearance issues with the 56" two piece Race Ramps - they work great!

Are your cars lowered or stock suspension? It could be they don't work for guys with coilovers or springs wich are very popular mods. If they don't have much leway it would suck to buy a set that works only to find they don't work once you modify your suspesion.

Indeed they clear but only by a tad... barely. And yes, Race Ramps are terrific! Best vendor to buy from is Fred at Reverse Logic.

I did the yardstick test on my stock Nismo and the measurement came in at right around 7.25". According to Race Ramps this is the minimum clearance without using the extenders. To play it safe, I would purchase the extenders.

Fred, any idea how long it would take to get one of these options manufactured and ready to sell, once you get enough people to commit? I'm definitely in the market for Race Ramps (already got your quote), but really like would definitely buy Option 1 if you could bring it to market in a reasonable amount of time.

Thanks,
Jim

Stock ride height 370Z w/sport and no clearance issues here with the 56" RR 2 piece jobs. No rubbing of the chin spoiler when pulling up the ramps. Enough room to do the oil change and any other lower engine area stuff. I guess this would apply more to people with lowered Z's or people who need the car higher up so they can get their fat guts under the car :)

Revised ramp specifications

The specifications for the 2-piece, 2-stage incline ramps described in my note to Billarf have changed slightly. By moving the point where the angle changes from 6.8 degrees to 10.75 degrees further down the ramp, the overall length of the ramps can be shortened. The 10" high ramps will be 80" long (instead of 87") and the 8" high ramps will be 65" long (instead of 72"). The 7" high ramps will not be manufactured. I will be posting additional information and specs for the ramps in the vendors and sponsors section under Reverse Logic Limited - Nissan 370Z Forum.

2010 370z base, 56 inch 2 piece rack ramps work perfect. Love em worth every cent.

kenchan 01-18-2011 11:53 AM

for me, i got the cheezo Rhino ramps. then went to homedepot and got some oak to make extensions of my choice. I screw them down snug (just 2 long screws each) to keep them from sliding when i go up/down the ramp.

$50 total. works like a charm, even on my lowered G35C. plenty of clearance on my Z.
been using this setup for almost a decade now. no issue.
