Manual Transmission Engage Height

I have driven sticks for years including the old muscle cars. New to the Z so have no experience with the clutch but it seems to me that it engages with the peddle awfully high. I am not one who is use to free clutching (normally keep my heel on the floor when shifting). Only 4 day owner so am sure I can get use to it but wondering if the peddle height is adjustable? Used to be on the mechanical clutches but presuming this is hydraulic. AND NO, I do not need an automatic.

the Z's clutch (at least mine) starts engaging very close to the floor.... but full engagement is before 1/2 way clutching out.

my other cars engagement is higher out the clutch so the Z's clutch throws me off a little bit for the first few minutes since i only drive it once a week.

the height notis adjustable. this was my first stick shift car of my own and in the begining i was super clunky, but you'll get used to the car and drive it smoothly. you will get used to it, don't worry. I do kind of a mix between 'free clutching' as you call it, and heel on the floor. i move my whole leg with my heel off the floor until just before about the engagement point, then i put my heel on the ground and smoothly let off the clutch.

Thanks for letting me know that it is adjustable as I will let the dealer know and adjust. My clutch does not start to engage until nearly 1/2 way out then full engage at 3/4 or more. Just a lot of wasted leg action in my humble opinion....

If my car engaged like yours, I would be thrilled. Just learned it is adjustable so will have it done. Thanks for the response

I am with Jeffblue, I let my leg release the clutch right up until I reach the friction point which is when I use my heel on the floor to fully engage the clutch smoothly. This is my first manual car and while it takes a little getting used to, it becomes second nature and you will be shifting well quickly!

I was wondering though; what if we could get a company to make an adjustable master cylinder made for our Zs?

i threw a bunch of washers behind it so to me, it feels like it's right off the floor

How and where did you place these washers? That sounds like a great way to adjust the engagement point as long as there are no adverse long term effects.

The 350z was adjustable, there was a nut and bolt under the dash attached to the top of the clutch peddle that you could adjust, check this out... Not sure if the 370z is the same... Clutch Adjustment - Nissan 350Z & 370Z Wiki

NUTS, I was exicited with your first comment. :-( Guess I will have to manage it and try various foot placements. On another question but releated to the clutch; when I am in first gear up my drive I depress the clutch to slow into the garage. When I do that there is a "clang/bang" at the transmission. Sounds like it is banging against a heat shield or the exhaust. Is it something I am doing wrong/normal/or need to take in?

I have a NISMO (just for reference). When I have the clutch in, everything is nice and quite. Clutch out (not in gear), I hear all sorts of stuff which is wierd to me. As expected, clutch out and in gear (1st mostly), I hear chattering even if I feather the engagement.

I have been successful at reducing the madness and a pretty smooth take off by blipping the throttle a time or two before I release the clutch. It seems like I had to do the same with my old 240SX, but it had a clutch upgrade.

except i just used washers with a stud through it and no drilling

woudn't putting washers behind the pedal just prevent you from depressing the clutch all the way?
