I agree that the nismo is not worth the extra cash compared to the sport package in regards to performance, but I got the nismo because I think it looks 10x better than the stock z and I wanted a more unique car that many people do not have. Most of us end up modding our cars anyway, so the performance will come with the mods. Just my opinion.

My apologies for bringing up a topic that has been beaten to death, but what is the Nismo supposed to be? Is it a track car or just a bodykit? I started this thread to show it's not a superior track car. As far as bodykits go there are way better options. Amuse rear and Mines front are my favorite. I plan on doing some sort of combination after I get TT'd. I do like the Nismo and even asked the dealer if he had any when I purchased my Z. Unless they would have given me a great deal I couldn't have seen my self doing it.

Not a big fan of the Nismo. Not since the C&D article showed the Nismo as less than a sports car when its brakes failed during the lightning lap. As i recall, Nissan's response was something like "the brakes were not meant for high-performance driving".
I think Nissan shot itself in the foot with a reply like that. In other words, "our performance-enhanced version of our high-performance sports car (GTR aside) isn't really meant to handle track conditions. If you want that, you can always buy our upgraded brake package for $500" By the way C&D tested the Nismo with the $500 pads and it didn't do a whole lot better than the standard . |

The funny thing about people saying they could do better than Nissan did for the price of a NISMO is I doubt most people actually have. How many people scoffing at the price of a NISMO have upgraded coilovers, sway bars, ECU tune, exhaust, rims, tires, chassis braces, and have a full bodykit (front + rear bumper, side skirts, and spoiler)? Some people have, and those people have very nice cars, but it takes a lot of time and effort in addition to just money. My point is let your mods do the talking and all of this armchair "Yeah, well... I coulda..." BS is useless. |

For a lot of people, the fun is in doing the modding, rather than having the modded car. In addition, you could probably better the NISMO for less money, but even then, I'd argue it's a waste of money. The amount of money spent making the car marginally more powerful/handle slightly better could be spent much better on different things. In the end, it's about a complete package, and for everyone it will be something different. Some people are willing to make the trade-off financially to get performance from the factory--I know I actually considered it on the Z. Driving around a heavily modified car is fun in some ways, but it is a PITA in a lot of others. |

For me though, I don't really find any joy in changing much from the stock look. I'll throw on rims and lower it, but beyond that, my money goes under the hood (though on the Z, hopefully, my money will stay out of the car entirely). |
