Nissan also chose the stock brake pads to appease customers who bought "performance cars" and then just drove them on the street. Plenty of people with 350Z's whined and complained about dust and noise from brakes. Nissan reacted with pads better suited for the street and then the C&D crash happened.

The funny thing about people saying they could do better than Nissan did for the price of a NISMO is I doubt most people actually have. How many people scoffing at the price of a NISMO have upgraded coilovers, sway bars, ECU tune, exhaust, rims, tires, chassis braces, and have a full bodykit (front + rear bumper, side skirts, and spoiler)? Some people have, and those people have very nice cars, but it takes a lot of time and effort in addition to just money.

My point is let your mods do the talking and all of this armchair "Yeah, well... I coulda..." BS is useless.

For a lot of people, the fun is in doing the modding, rather than having the modded car.

In addition, you could probably better the NISMO for less money, but even then, I'd argue it's a waste of money. The amount of money spent making the car marginally more powerful/handle slightly better could be spent much better on different things.

In the end, it's about a complete package, and for everyone it will be something different. Some people are willing to make the trade-off financially to get performance from the factory--I know I actually considered it on the Z. Driving around a heavily modified car is fun in some ways, but it is a PITA in a lot of others.
