370z Sport vs Nismo 370z
Just picked up DSPORT issue #94 where they ran a few cars on Willow Springs Raceway. I was kind of disappointed not to see any Mustangs or Camaros. It seems there has been a constant dispute over if the Nismo is worth the money as compared to the Sport 370z. Dsport put the 2011 Nismo and 2011 370z Sport on a DynoJet with surprising result. The Nismo achieved 313.9 whp @7200rpm and 256.5 lb-ft @ 4500rpm with a measured weight of 3376 lbs giving it a pwr/wgt of 109.4 hp/1000lbs. The 370z Sport managed 297.8whp @7300rpm and 246.5 lb-ft @ 4600rpm with a measured weight of 3352 lbs giving it a pwr/wgt of 104.5 hp/1000lbs. I would luv to see those results on my 370 at the dyno. I will let u guys add 15% to find out flywheel hp. At the drag strip the Nismo put down a 60' time of 2.192 seconds and 13.738 @ 102.2 mph. 370z Sport a 60' time of 2.445 seconds and 14.206 @ 103.84 mph. On the track I believe we can all expect the results. The Nismo finished in 1:28.661, with the 370 Sport took 1:26.193. WOW a 1.5 second difference. How is that possible? For $8k you should get more than a bodykit. What are you guys more interested in 1/4 mile or lap times? With all of the magazines accumulated results should the 370z Sport be considered a better sports car than the Nismo 370z? As far as the dyno results most cars made more whp than advertised. Only a few made less than expected.
put a 2011

Also, I'm sure you've seen these (2010 is same as 2009 plus heated mirrors, etc.)- according to this article... an 09' 370z is quicker than an 09' 370z NISMO??! 370 Touring Vs 370 Nismo Comparo w/ Video (this is actually a Touring + Sport) Last edited by Auston; 08-24-2010 at 11:49 AM. Dyno numbers are way off, even for a Dyno Jet - that's more like 10% loss.
Is there a typo on the lap times? Shouldn't the Sport be more like 1:29.193?

And those times are in line for what these cars should run on the Tsukuba Circuit...
I wonder how much it would take to get it to be a sub-1-minute car. Hmmmm

not a comparo but sticking up for the Nismo... ive driven both cars and if you know how to push a cars limits the Nismo can be pushed further than a sport packaged Z. And to push a cars limits that means VDC off. Ive upgraded my nismo and you can mod it just like a sport z but its a great head start and I gaurantee if you made the same mods to both a sport and a Niz the Nismo would gain more of an advantage with each mod.

Supposedly they used professional drag and time-attack drivers. The lap times are not a typo. A dvd comes with the magazine which show all of the track times. Even with the high dyno numbers for most of the vehicles I can't explain the low numbers for a few others.

Mod'ing a sport would quickly put better parts on the car than a Nismo comes with. And if you're mod'ing both cars, you'll essentially have the same car in the end with different bodies. The various sections on this forum would prove that many of the aftermarket parts are more track-capable than the Nismo parts. Why pay $550 for Nismo brake pads if you can have better Carbotechs for $330? The same reasoning holds for coilovers, CBEs, custom tunes... Sorry, but Nismo is still Cheezmo IMHO, and certainly not the 'bang for the buck' that the sport package gives you. It looks like Nissan made the Nismo with hypothetical improvements on paper with the additions they made without actually track testing and tuning each part to produce real-world gains. IE, they were lazy.

Performance wise I don't see the reason to pay the extra money for a Nismo

"Actually, it does the rev downshift with way too much throttle blip."
So matching the revs perfectly for the lower gear is 'way too much'? All credibility of this review is now history...as it if wasn't when you first laid eyes on this guy.
