fusz- i have to agree, some folks are just frikken nuts. this is why i cant stand retail sales. i remember back in the days i was working part-time at an appliance store.

waaaay past warranty period, customer claims he never used the humidifier he wanted to return and wanted full refund. i open the box, the humidifer had water in it... checked with the manager and he declined to accept the return. so i told the customer sorry it's past the store policy warranty/return period, there's water inside it, i can't take it back.

he calls the cops. officer comes to talk to me, but he is also scratching his head.

we gave him the full refund just because this asian freak looked like he was going to burn the store down if we didn't.

Some people just don't get it. I will fully admit when we are in the wrong, and I will make it right.

Thanks guys, I know this is a bash on the dealer thread(for good reasons), but I needed to get that off my chest.

This person was driving me crazy!

I think a general bash the dealers type of thread is not fair to many dealers. It is important not to generalize that dealers will try to rip you off because there are many that are run by enthusiasts and car owners. Besides, it is pretty simple: if customers like you, they will come back especially in such a trust based business.

I went in to cancel my extended warranty on my altima in june. They said wait till august for the check. Its august. i called nissan, no cancellation was ever filed by the dealership. Now they get to sit on my 1300 bucks for another 6 weeks. what a crock. i have all the paperwork of cancelling the warranty which i am going to bring with me. Now, do i go in all gung ho and demand they pay me within a few days, or should i be patient and now wait another 6 weeks to recieve my check? This financing department is really the shitty. 3 times they have made mistakes at my expense.

Well, I think that there is some value in consumers warning others about bad experiences. But the consumer reading another person's experiences should take it with a grain of salt, since nobody's perfect. In the end, I don't think you completely rule a dealership out because of anecdotal evidence, but it helps to keep things in mind when dealing with them, because sometimes where there's smoke, there's fire. Then again, one person's rotten dealership experience may also be attributed to a salesman who no longer works there. There are a lot of factors at play.

Realize how the game is played. Dealerships are in business to make money. Salesmen are going to attempt to maximize profit, even though they can sell at invoice usually and still earn profit. The best thing a consumer can do is research how the deal is done before ever setting foot in a dealership.

I'm gonna go in and see how they handle it. I think the right hing for them to do is write me a check, and then get it covered from HQ. I shouldn't have to wait again. if they don't do that, i'm gonna call the HQ like you said.

this financing department:
1. Bought my altima, they put the loan in my dad's name instead of putting him as co signer, so i never got credit for a car i bought and paid off.
2. wouldn't accept a personal check for my down payment, DESPITE the fact that i had already gotten specific permission from the OWNER of the dealership AND the general manager (who wasn't in the day i picked up the car) (owner said i could use a personal check because my family had bought/leased 5 (this would be the 6th) cars from him). They gave me so much attitude and were like' how about we just write a new contract, that doesn't include your downpayment, then if it clears we'll rip it up and do a new one, OR we can keep your car here until you get a cashiers check... then with the most attitude of all, the finance manager goes "or we could just call the owner, do you want us to do that?... i'm like 'yes'' . the other manager calls, and the owner is like 'ARE YOU KIDDING ME? of course he can pay with a personal check" the general manager that was there apologized profusely. she didn't say a word and just looked pissed.
3. Wrote the first payment as due the day i bought the car, then two weeks later, calls me and tells me that they need to send me a new contract. I asked them to send me the address and i'd make the payment, but they wouldn't do that. so i told them to send the new contract AND a copy of the old one so i could compare and make sure they didn't pull any BS(i didn't have the old one with me where i was) of course they didn't.
4. This bs with not cancelling my service contract.

Some F&I managers payplans are set up to only chargeback the manager for the first 90 days. So if that manager sits on your cancelation for 3 months and then submits it, he still gets paid the full gross, and doesn't get charged back. Then the dealer has to eat the cancelation and the gross they paid the F&I manager. Don't ask me why but some stores still do this.

I would actually love to read more stories like this. We don't often hear stories from your side of the table! I suppose they would mostly come down to the standard customer service horror stories though.

Okay.....

We had a lady come Into the dealership with a 2000 altima. She said her shifter broke. We open the door and what did we find.

Every freak'n possible spot filled with old news papers and trash. You could only sit in the driverseat. You couldn't see out the side and rear windows. I dot know how she drove. She could only use the driver side mirror. (I know I have pics somewhere). So we look into the issue. We can't get the center console and shift panel off due to the tight working quarters and all the trash. So we make the lady come back and clean the passenger seat out. It takes her 2 hours.

So we determine it's just soda and juke that made the shifter stick and finally break , so she wants it fixed under warranty for being a defect. We tell her no.

So Nissan consumer affairs calls me and ask what the problem is; I send them the photo. I never hear back from Nissan...lol Now 4 weeks go by and we can't get a hold of this lady.

Finally, we get her on the phone and tell her she needs to a. Pay to fix it or b. Pay and we will put it back together and get it off my lot. So she writes this letter to Nissan and myself, about how this should be a covered part and we won't work with her. So she sends a tow truck and picks the car up and tows it to my competition....lol. And stiffs me on the bill. That was a great day!
