Has VDC made you a worse Z driver?

For example, take SRM. If you constantly heel and toe and leave SRM off, you're going to get very good a h&t shifting. If you leave SRM on for a month, and then turn it off one day, you'll have to get used to driving with it off again. You lose the muscle memory, the familiarity...the feel for doing it on your own.

VDC on vs VDC off is almost like two different cars. Constantly driving with it on, and then turning it off one day is like stepping into a new car you're unfamiliar with. What makes it dangerous is that you think you know the car, but you've completely altered a major part of how it handles. My opinion is that this is exactly why people keep crashing with VDC off.

VDC off, by itself, is not dangerous. The false sense of security it has given people is why it is. You've been driving a fairly high hp RWD car around that handles like a dream. Well, sorry, but turning VDC off brings you back to reality...the reality that RWD sports cars don't really drive themselves. You have to be respectful of their power, and know how to handle them.
Great point Shadow - now add some wet pavement and you get a big surprise. So if you turn off vdc, then carefully learn your "new" car, and drive like you have an egg between your foot & gas pedal!

Hey Nismo thanks for the reply. Do you work at Boeing by chance? I saw a red nismo in the parking lot the other day.

Nope, mine is Pearl White. Though I do live pretty close by, I have yet to see a Nismo 370 in the area...

Oh, and my Nismo has been parked at Special Interest Autobody for the last week while Geico gets their **** together!

Weekend before last we had a bit of light rain - got turned around and hit a curb pretty hard. I got off pretty lucky as it was all fairly low speed. However, the passenger side airbags fired, so thats gonna cost...

Here's a couple pics:

Note the odd angle the rear wheel has...you can see what bent in the next pic

Ouch, those links used to be straight. Actually the camber arm (the black one) is designed with a kink in it so that it will give in the case of a crash.

I tried to derail the thread and send it on its way to a padlock by introducing Miata doors, but people actually wanted to talk about this.

haha yep! I NEVER have any issue on/off. My Z has NEVER come out on me regardless of the conditions. Yes that includes TRYING to lose it in snow.

I am just curious about why this has come about. I am guessing a number of members had 300zx tts and those didnt have traction control or anything. When I first bought mine, I was scared to death of it. I quickly learned the limits and never had a problem with it. All the cars I have owned have not had traction control or anything similar. I do plan on possible buying a 370z and will keep VDC on most of the time. I am just afraid that I won't respect the power near as much as my 450 hp 300zx because of VDC.

pretty sure most vipers dont have traction control... these Z drivers better not graduate to vipers because they'd be in serious trouble
