With lower octane your car will run richer in order to try to prevent detonation as well. You'll probably be spending more because of the reduced mileage than you'll save at the pump...

Exactly - and the other 'bonus' of penny-pinching on fuel will be reduced performance.

This makes sooo much sense - If ever you get a really beautiful girlfriend, make sure you take her out for romantic big macs because they're cheap.
