Default Why so many zs?

I have been planning on getting a 370z since they first came out. It wasnt untill recent that I got serious with my searching and I finally test drove one a couple days ago and it was awesome. I was ready to buy one when I decided I would look at some used ones and see what they are going for. For being a one year old car they really dont hold their resale well and also there are a ton of them for sale. Why isnt anyone holding onto their zs and why is the resale so bad? Is there something I am missing?

In my opinion, Nissan will always carry the Scarlet letter of "made with Japanese beer cans.". No matter what will do, it will always be there. Same thing with the Toyota Supr or any other non-German/Italian sports car.

If you would look closer, that is one (if not the main reason) why nissan and Toyota created Lexus and Infinity --- it is all about branding. Oh, don't forget that Honda has Acura!

Mind yah, my Z is a keeper....unless someone wants to trade his Cayenne for mine.

Nissans are not as rated as reliable as Hondas or Toyotas, so the resale value is less by comparison. They should hold their value a bit better than GM's or Fords tho'...

Are you seeing used ones for sale or left over 2009's? People are broke -- not a lot of people can swing a 30K+ car right now, and even those who can, just barely can...

If used, I bet they were leases (or repo'd...).

I've seen like maybe one other 370 here in Tampa.

I don't see to many for sale here in Jersey. And I think alot of the used ones you are seeing were bought and then the person had to sell it because they couldn't swing the payments or got it repo'd

I've heard they are common in some areas. In my neck of the woods, I only see maybe one per week. I see 3 camaros and 3 mustangs to every Z I see. Otoh, some folks in VA are seeing 5 on their daily commute.

I agree. I live in Tampa also and we bought my wife's 370 used. There were maybe 4 for sale in a 100 mile radius and most of the ones for sale were all base models (which i was not looking for).

Apparently they were all in Central Florida -- greedy bastards!

Hey, speaking of which -- were you on 275 N around 4:30 - 5:00 PM today (Tuesday)? I think I saw you.

You are only the 2nd (or 3rd) Z34 I've seen around here and the surrounding area

Yeah, I rarely see 370Zs around the Tampa area... I like it that way, haha. Although I see a white 370Z with a big Red Sox sticker on his hatch on my way to work every day because he works at Ice Cold Air on 580/US19.

Yes, probably so, but it would have been my wife. It is her daily driver and my weekend toy. I have only seen 1 other PW 370z around here and the owner actually works out at the same gym as we do.....Coincidently.

I've looked online and yes, I do see a lot of them for sale but keep two things in mind.

1) people are not paying anywhere near sticker price. So for a (and I'm just throwing out numbers here) $40K car, that might go for $34K from the dealer new, it's probably only going to go for $30Kish used a year old. If that. Would you buy a used car for $30K if you could get one brand new that you know wasn't beat on yet for $34K? AND you would most likely be able to get a much better interest rate on the new one if you finance so payment wise you'd probably be about the same...

2) A lot of sports cars are purchased by kids and adults, only to find out that they can't afford it. And with things today, a lot of them could have been purchased only to have the owner lose their job so that is another possibility. I was just reading another thread about the expected life of the stock tires. not good, and for probably 80% of the people buying the car that was never a thought. then a year and 12K miles later they are finding that they need to spend $1500 (?) on new tires every year.

Just saying, I wouldn't over think the fact that there are so many Z's out there for sale and automatically think that it's because something is wrong with the car itself.
