I have a black Z and I've given up trying to keep the paint looking nice, it's apparent as we all know that Nissan's paint is on pair with Maaco.

Should I paint my Z Daytona Blue?

Instead of trying to fix all the spots and what not, I have decided I'm going to paint the car. I love Daytona Blue, how do you think it would look and what would a good paint job cost? I'm guessing at least $3500 |

As a former Daytona Blue 350z owner, I say HELL YES. Loved that blue. I had the option to get Athens blue on our G37 when I bought it, but couldn't warm up to the color.

A full color change, with door jams, engine bay, etc will run $3500 on the cheap side up to $6000 for a higher end body shop. I was goign to pay $3800 to paint my G35 Midnight Purple from the Skyline, but that didn't include the engine bay. Then I bought a 370Z instead 2 weeks ago

I got a quote from a very reputable place here that generally only deals in german cars (which is what I had at the time), it was about $8K. I asked them about it being high, and they said the places where you get it done for a couple grand do things tape and mask everything, whereas they disassemble as much as they can for the best product, along with using better quality paints.

I say go for it that color is so damn hot... Price does very that's for sure but i would not bring it anywhere that just tapes it off. You would surely want a shop that pulls the car apart as much as possible. Shop around don't go cheap on paint, it may look good at first but in the long run it may end up looking worse than the crap stock paint.

its going to degrade the value of the car for trade ins but if you dont plan to trade it in then all is good. If you do it I would get it done right to include engine bay and all and that will cost about 8 - 10K. Not worth it in my view but everyone is different. It is a nice color tho.

$3500 for a full color change will be on par with MAACO quality probably, and/or it wont include the entire car (door jambs/engine bay/etc may be left out). I'd guess you'd be paying double that, and it seems others agree.
If you want to save money, you can remove the engine, and disassemble as much of the car as you can, then tow it to/from the paint shop. The cheapest option would be just repaint it black, but with better quality. |
