Skip a gear?

x2, harmless, usually had fun on the on ramp and need to slow down to merge into traffic about when I'm leaving 4th and drop right into 6th

well there are 2 reasons why i skip gears...

1) when i'm dropping the clutch and burning out i go from 1st to 3rd because i've seen way too many people lose 2nd gear doing a burnout and shifting into 2nd when the revs are too high.

2) when my girlfriend is in my car, occasionally for some odd reason i have to go from 1st to 4th...you could imagine why

Sure, I do it almost every morning. I'm in 4th doing about 70 when merging into heavy traffic on the freeway and have to get over about 6 lanes before the freeway splits. As soon as I pick a spot and get in the lane I slip directly into 6th gear and back off the gas. No problems.

I skip gears everyday. I've heard its bad to make it a habbit to skip the same gear repeatedly, just mix it up. Go to a different dealership and don't mention anything, but that its grinding. Get that ish fixed yo!

I do it all the time, I do a lot of 1-3-5 or 6th there's no reason for you to go threw all gears if you rev it high enough in first or third might as well just skip it. Specially with the traffic here in SoCal it helps a lot

1) Nothing wrong with what you are doing under those circumstances.

2) Missing gears and dropping directly to the one needed while DOWNSHIFTING is the way to go.

I do it all the time as well. Just cruising around town, I go from 3rd to 6th as long as I am going at leat 35mph

. I had a 1994 Pontiac Formula and there was a feature called "skip-shift" that forced you to go from 1st to 4th. They did this to help meet the corporate fuel economy standards. The only way to bypass the skip-shift was to get into the gas more aggressively

. I did end up bying an eliminator to get rid of this feature because it was a PITA!
