Default After Market Security Alarm

Hey guys.

Do we have a Alarm/Security section in this forum, or am I just being dumb LOL?
Forum seems to be lacking any solid threads on security, and those I do find are full of dumb comments like .. get a dog... get a gun.. etc etc

Anyway I'm looking at getting an after market security alarm system,
such as the Viper with tilt sensors.

Not interested in remote start, but a 2-way system would be a good option,
and the Viper has an iPhone app I believe.

Tilt senosr obviously a bonus to prevent wheel theft, as well breaking glass sensors.

Guess my question actually is there anything that fits the 370Z?
There's a "Interface Modules Lookup" on the Viper website, so you can check for compatible car harnesses/modules, but this site blows an error everytime I search for my model LOL

So if anyone has any solid facts on 370Z alarms let me know

I have exactly what you are talking about on my car. I have the viper 3303 two way alarm, glass break audio sensor, tilt sensor, and viper smart start(the iphone app you are referring to, they also make it for blackberry i think), so i get any alerts no matter where i am. the total price, installed was 1100 with tax. Feel free to post any questions here and i'll answer them.

And yes, lets try and keep this thread free of:
1. put your car in a garage (not everyone has this option)
2. Get a dog
3. Get a gun
4. rig a boobie trap etc.

lets make this a serious thread about security systems.

We need a serious thread for a serious subject.

Sounds like a great setup you have there, so what's the deal with the install?

Does it require an additional harness or module for the 370Z.....
Any info on part number?

How did the install go.. and are there any Pro and Cons you would like to mention?

yes, it requires some sort of interface module, but thats just how it goes.
actual parts they install on your car are:
1 the 'brain' of the alarm
2 interface module
3. tilt sensor/audio glass break sensor (i also asked for a trunk release as well on the
remote and they didn't charge me, so its definintely possible)
4. the viper smart start interface

the install seemed to have gone well. Just check your windows when they are done. make sure they both go up and down, and go AUTO up and down when you press them all the way down/up. Also make sure that the window pops up and down 1/4 inch like its supposed to. There was an issue with that when i went to leave, but i caught it, turned around, and they fixed it.

Pros:
1. knowing that no one messed with my car if my phone didn't go off
2. Knowing that no one can jack up my car (unless they are liike an expert and very slow and smooth, which is unlikely, because they'd be in a rush) without the alarm going off.
3. confirmation that your car is locked/unlocked from far away
4. smart start:if i want to make sure my doors are locked from anywhere, i can. Also if you don't have your keys on you, and need to get something out of your car you can just use your phone (i've done this a bunch of times when going to leave in a friends car)

cons:
price

Sounds like a great setup man. (+1)

You obviously have the remote start, which could be a bonus.
I'm just concered about remote start on a manual, I guess there's some safety feature in case it's left in gear, right?

I just priced this out without remote start and it's barely over $300 without install.

Do you recall what your install cost was, without parts?

thanks for the rep guys.

i'm not sure what the price was without install. i think labor was only like 75 dollars, or it might have been 75 an hour. Sorry if i was unclear, but i do not have remote start. In retrospect, i wish i had gotten it. it would have been 1100 vs 1400, might as well splurge and get the whole deal. on these alarms, they make models designed for manual transmissions that have failsafes that make sure the car is not in gear, and hte hand brake is active before the car will remote start.

i believe that the audio and tilt sensors were each 75. smart start module+install was 300 or so.

you can use this: Viper - Store Locator to find an installer. Then call up and see how familiar they are with the car or the module(s). this was my installers first smart start install and first 370Z and he managed just fine.

I guessed from the prcing you had the remote start module which is around $500.

Pricing the Viper 3303, tilit sensor, and glass sensors comes out to around $310, so I'm curious if you don't have remote start why your total came out around $1000.

Now obviously I don't know what Nissan module or wiring harness is required, or the cost of that.
But just from pricing of parts without remote start, how the hell did it cost 1000 bucks LOL

Also wondering if this is a plug & play setup, or if the harness/module requires a lot of wiring.

no, you dont need a specific wiring harness for our car for the alarm to work.

the shop that installs it will know what to do and how to install it.Its an easy install, just very time consuming.

i guess there must have been more labor involved that i had thought. they had the car for about 5 hours, so must have been 75 an hour. Yes the parts aren't hat expensive, but the install isn't exactly a breeze. he said it was more complicated than he had thought initially. i dont think they ripped me off or anything. its kind of like getting a TT kit, yes its way less expensive to get the parts and do it yourself, but most people don't have the know how, same case here. If i were you, i'd just let a shop install it. you can go there, they will price everything out for you, tell you what each part costs and then you decide what you do and don't want.

i'd give it a 9... The iphone app is pretty cool, i don't really use it much unless i think i forgot to lock my car. Mostly its for peace of mind (which is a big deal to me)if i'm out of range of the remote, like at the mall or out with friends in another car and mine's parked at someone's house.

only draw backs are, if any of the sensors go off, you get a notification that says 'trunk open.' instead of like 'tilt sensor' or 'glass sensor' But it gets the point across, '**** IS GOING DOWN AT YOUR CAR!'

unfortunately, there are still ways to circumvent the alarm, like cutting the battery and all that stuff, but they make back up battery systems, but my feeling is that no matter what, nothing's foolproof. I think i have enough security for the average thief to not want to mess with my car.

oh yea one other drawback is that you have to use the viper remote all the time instead of your nissan remote. You basically don't touch your nissan remote at all, its just there for starting the car. If you lock the doors (which arms the alarm) with the viper remote, and then unlock it with the nissan remote, it WONT disarm the alarm, and it WILL go off when you open the door/trunk. so you basically never use the keyless entry button on the door anymore, but i'll make that sacrifice for added security.
