how to seal fittings of oil cooler? (urgent answer needed)
i'm gonna be installing my z1 motorsports cooler tomorrow morning, and i have a question. neither the instructions nor anywhere on this forum does it state how to seal all the various fittings that connect the hoses to the sandwich plate and oil cooler so they don't leak. would teflon tape be ok, or threadlock, or what else?

Teflon tape or white Teflon sealant (paste) will work. These only go on the NPT-type (tapered) threads and never on AN fittings.
And to add to the above 1/2-3/4 turn past hand-tight is enough to seal an AN fitting. 2-3 turns after hand tight for the tapered NPT threads. |

I used Teflon white tape all around. No issues so far.
Can't hurt! |

The only thing on a cooler system that needs sealant would be the NPT fittings into the cooler if you use that type. A high temp paste sealant seems to work best. AN fittings use no sealant at all as the seal occurs in the tapered fit and not at the threads. The Mocal fittings have seals on them (provided you bought the recommended ones from Mocal) and don't need anything additional. That's all in my DIY BTW..
