6MT 07-24-2010 11:31 AM

Diesel......cough, cough.....

Pharmacist 07-24-2010 11:35 AM

why would nissan put a v8 or a turbocharged v6 in the z and have it challenge the corvette? the only thing that will do is cannibalize sales from the gt-r. the z has always been about value for the money and affordable performance. nissan will not increase its price significantly. and without a price increase they won't afford putting a v8 in it. besides, would they really put a v8 when they don't even wanna put an oil cooler in our cars?

ZedZed 07-24-2010 12:17 PM

I'm thinking they'll mess it up completely and make our current Z's super desirable and therefore expensive for being the last good Z in the lineup .

:iagree: I had the dohc V-6 in my SLK. I hope it's not the future of the Z, unless the next Z loses a lot of weight.

I also agree that paying Mercedes prices for parts is certainly not in the Z strategic statement.

Mercennarius 07-25-2010 04:34 PM

Won't happen. Nissans VQ is cheaper to produce, made in higher #s, more potent, and class leading.

If anything expect Mercedes to borrow engines from Nissan.

You're probably right... except for diesel, where Mercedes has far more experience than Nissan does. Can't see that in a sports car, despite the Blue-Tec concepts. Shifting at a redline of 4,000rpm. Gah!

No need V12,the 3L V6 diesel already can hit 62mph in 6.1secs,about the same as our Z.

Not really, that's a good second slower.

But we cant buy mustangs here :(

Hell we can barely buy any american muscle car.

no mustangs, no camaros, no viper. As far I know the only muscle car that is sold here are the corvettes and those have only one dealership in belgium I think

I would welcome a big *** V8.

Give the Z a TT V8

GT-R engine > LFA engine. Unless all u care about is the way it sounds. LFAs engine is all strung out with zero room for more power potential, the GT-Rs TT V6 has lots of room for more power.

nicknick 07-26-2010 10:35 PM

Diesels? No please no! Diesel performance characteristics are not suited to sports cars. Audi should be boycotted for putting one in R8. What the hell are they thinking? I know, I for one would be greatly turned off a diesel Z.

Yes but here we arent allowed to modify the engine at all. maximum is a ECU tune so yeah I would prefer the already more powerfull and pretty sounding V10

I guess its the same as us wanting the European cars cuz we cant have them as easily.

Jordo! 07-27-2010 12:53 PM

A factory TT would be a nice option, with any motor.

I guarantee you a test drive of an R8 diesel would change your mind.

Article says that diesel in the Z would be about 211hp and 400lbs of torque. If the Z could lose a couple hundred more pounds, that would still be pretty quick.

Ya the only Mustangs or muscle cars in general I saw in Europe were all upper end models, Cobras or Saleens. And Mustangs were really the only muscle cars I saw with the exception of a few older Firebirds, from like the late 70s. But like I said they were all high end expensive models so they were proably bought by some guy with money and imported.
