Exclamation How do I convince my father

My dad said that for graduation he's going to buy me a new car. I have fallen in love with the 370z. How do I get him to do the same? He said no americans casr and no more used cars. For some reason he doesn't seem to be too fond of Nissan. I think hes leaning towards Honda or Toyota. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

hmmm.... that is a tough one. have you tried pulling a gun on him? or putting a decapitated horsehead in his bed with a note that says "370Z or this could be you."

I hope you're talking about a college graduation gift...

either way, I wouldn't say a peep if someone was buying me a new car, appreciate it. If you want something for yourself, save up and buy it.

i mean if u dont want to be stuck with a corolla for 10 more years and u want a Z really bad and ur graduating from college i would tell my dad hey, put that same money as a down and i'll pay the rest of the new 370z mortgage from my own earnings (work).

i think that's fair.

Just curious: college or HS graduation?

Otherwise, tough one. I'd say, first try to steer him towards something sporty, and then from there, keep steeeeering until you get somewhere in the neighborhood of the Z.

Show him that the last car had great crash safety results (isn't that right)? Also, show him that the Nissan V6 keeps winning best engine of the year award. Tell him that Nissan has come full circle since the early 90s and it's not the same brand that he may have an image of in his mind. Maybe those will help.

The thing with gifts is that people as human beings will always bring up an excuse and ask you for a favor especially when its something that cost more than 100 bucks. I am graduating from college and well my parents are not buying me a car but you know what I already have 20% of the cost of the vehicle (which so far am undecided whether to get it in yellow or blue) to give down and thanks to the guys who posted the suggested amount that should be given down on a downpayment this will be the first car that i will be buying brand new my last car was a BMW 530i which i bought salvage and fixed up. the coolest part is am only 19 with a bachelors degree so i am going to reward myself by buying a 370z!!!!!! I currently work as a Graphic designer and make a liveable wage especially for a 19 year old who does not have a mortgage and has a full ride scholarship.

But appreciate what your dad is doing no matter what he buys you man its better than nothing and if he doesnt agree then cut him a deal tell him to give you an example a reasonable car and get him to give that much down on the Z you want and you pay the difference just a thought

^^ nice idea. if u want to negotiate and end up with the Z do not ask for a Z u'll end up with probably a Scion tC. ask for a IS-F or a GT-R and then u'll end up with a Z, or a foot half way thru ur butt lol

^I dont know if I would ask for IS-F or a GT-R. What I was suggesting was to just ask for something that's close enough in the class of the Z (nothing outrageous like a GT-R). Maybe ask for that new Hyundai (whatever it's called), or some two seater convertible (like a miata or S2000) - living in NY you probably dont want a convertible, and your dad sounds like he might balk at the Hyundai for not being reliable enough. That's when you start working in a Z as a suggestion.
