How do I convince my father
My dad said that for graduation he's going to buy me a new car. I have fallen in love with the 370z. How do I get him to do the same? He said no americans casr and no more used cars. For some reason he doesn't seem to be too fond of Nissan. I think hes leaning towards Honda or Toyota. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
|
hmmm.... that is a tough one. have you tried pulling a gun on him? or putting a decapitated horsehead in his bed with a note that says "370Z or this could be you."
|
work and get ur own car and appreciate anything he gives you
|
^^^^ what he said. Man my old man would never buy me a car.
|
I hope you're talking about a college graduation gift...
either way, I wouldn't say a peep if someone was buying me a new car, appreciate it. If you want something for yourself, save up and buy it. |
i mean if u dont want to be stuck with a corolla for 10 more years and u want a Z really bad and ur graduating from college i would tell my dad hey, put that same money as a down and i'll pay the rest of the new 370z mortgage from my own earnings (work).
i think that's fair. |
yea i would just be happy to get any car.
but if he asks what you want...then you can tell him. otherwise i would just receive and be happy. |
Just curious: college or HS graduation?
Otherwise, tough one. I'd say, first try to steer him towards something sporty, and then from there, keep steeeeering until you get somewhere in the neighborhood of the Z. Show him that the last car had great crash safety results (isn't that right)? Also, show him that the Nissan V6 keeps winning best engine of the year award. Tell him that Nissan has come full circle since the early 90s and it's not the same brand that he may have an image of in his mind. Maybe those will help. |
^^ nice idea. if u want to negotiate and end up with the Z do not ask for a Z u'll end up with probably a Scion tC. ask for a IS-F or a GT-R and then u'll end up with a Z, or a foot half way thru ur butt lol
|
^I dont know if I would ask for IS-F or a GT-R. What I was suggesting was to just ask for something that's close enough in the class of the Z (nothing outrageous like a GT-R). Maybe ask for that new Hyundai (whatever it's called), or some two seater convertible (like a miata or S2000) - living in NY you probably dont want a convertible, and your dad sounds like he might balk at the Hyundai for not being reliable enough. That's when you start working in a Z as a suggestion.

This is SUCH an easy problem to solve!
To show you the answer, let me take you to England, early 2004..... My old car was being sold, so I needed a new one. My son said to me, "Why don't you get a 350z?" They were very new on the scene in the UK and I hadn't considered them at all. We started looking at pictures and reviews. The more I looked, the more I liked what I saw. Soon I found that I needed to go for a test drive in one, so I arranged it. We (my son and I) got in the car and drove around in it for about an hour. I have to tell you that I'd fallen in love with it within about 2 minutes - and the feeling's still the same after 5 years. (Yes, this is a love story!) So.....
Congratulations on your new car! (Get a black one). |
Geez, A Z? I got an 8 year old Pinto Wagon.
|
before i got the G
I got a 20 years old Pontiac 6000 which i still have and love |
i always found the best way to get what you want is to buy it yourself.... ?:tiphat:
|
ok....but whatever, the point is not to bring him down
his dad is buying him a car regardless. Tell your dad that the VQ engines on the 350's and G35's were number 1 since it came out....lol....just dont mention whats the ranking with the 3.7L....lol |

you know what's ****** up... is when i bought my first car i had to convince my parents even tho i was paying for it 100% from my work and savings lol
u'll be fine, point out the shitty aspects of toyota and honda like they cant handle worth crap, will probably get u killed on the freeway coz they got no pull, etc.. :D |
Man klds these days! Also like the above stated, I had to beg my parents to let me buy a new car that I was paying for with my own money! I know it sounds crazy but thats the truth. What you should do is just have your parents buy you a car with a good resale value(Honda, Toyota etc....) wait six to nine months when the 2010 is availabe take that free car that you got and trade it in so you can afford your Z and at least this way you can get away with saying that you bought your on Z.
But seriously dont pressure your parents into buying something you DONT need because what you need is a safe reliable car that gets you from point A to point B. |
be happy with whatever you get. my parents never bought me a car :/
but if i was buying my kid a gift it definately wouldnt be a sports car. sometihng from honda or toyota sounds good seeing as how they dont make sports cars anymore lol |

Gotta love parents. |
Keep your current car. Bank the money(if possible) he would use to buy a new car for you. Work and save, buy it yourself.
|
Wish my parents would have bought me a car when I was a kid. I say take what they give you and be happy. Then get a job and earn your Z.
|
If your a responsible driver etc. maybe show him your in love with the 370 and then fall back to the 350z...the 08's are going for huge discounts right now. As for getting the 370 maybe hand him a suitcase full of "IOU's" for mowing the lawn and washing cars hahahaha

buyer's remorse really bites hard in that week......lol |

But appreciate what your dad is doing no matter what he buys you man its better than nothing and if he doesnt agree then cut him a deal tell him to give you an example a reasonable car and get him to give that much down on the Z you want and you pay the difference just a thought |
19 years old with a degree already....wowsers
I'm still on the education road and i'm 20 years old...lol whatever my parents give, i'm happy with it.........i mean they are trying to give you something nice...so be happy........later on, you can buy whatever you want....just enjoy whats given for now |
Yeah, off topic. 19 with a undergrad degree...my hat off to you my friend.
|
19, damn, 22 here and still picking a major for the 12th time...
About convincing your father, I would do research and come to him with facts about the care. How well it does against other cars, safety standards, pricing, awards, and deals. Show the interest in the car and he might take a look at it with you and throw it in the choices he is looking at for you. |
Lucky I'm 21 and I only finished high school. NO College even though I want to.
|
yeah guys its been hard work but its payed off now and its cool being able to say that you are 19 with an undergrad degree.
|
Man, I have hard enough time trying to take one class part time :icon17:
|
i would have an associates right now but i dabbled in business for a year before switching to mechanical engineering. a 370z is a nice car. my father is saying the same thing to me.
good grades= new wheels. however im looking for something that costs about a 3rd of the 370z right now. i'll give you guys a few hints. turbo inline 6, awd, nissan. and since i have family in canada theres a loophole about driving it here muahaha.... my father has an SC430 right now that we put up for sale in order to get a Grey 370z Sport touring!! |
^^ damn, i missed my chance, i should of asked for a car when i was in high school....lol
I was one of the only few who drove in Gr.11.....hahahahah but i got 2 cars already, one in my name..... building my record strong |
So, your a senior right now?
I don't think you should get a 370z... It's not going to be convenient for you especially since your going to college. Will this be your first manual and rwd? Make sure you know what your in for! And remember it's coming out of your dad's pocket, not yours. |
^^ too many questions....lol...hold up
|
Tell him he can borrow it anytime he wants to.
|
tell him it will bring quality father & son time.....lol
