Going off topic here, but I think the young man's had all the help he needs...

If you're 19 and a Graphic Designer, why the hell don't you have a really nice avatar and sig pic? - Call yourself a designer? pahhh!

At 21, my parents bought me a 350Z as a gift. However, they didn't pay for the whole car. Once I graduated and found a full time job I paid the last two years for the car. I even took care of insurance, maintenance, etc.

At 27, I'm looking forward to the 370Z. This time I'm taking care of it myself especially after selling the 350Z. Mom's car broke down last year, so I took care of getting her a new Accord. That way my parents can focus on other things, and then my dad can later get her something "nicer." The Accord will probably end up being my daily driver. Otherwise, they can keep the Accord, and I can get a cheap daily driver.

If your dad can budget the 370Z as a new car for you, congrats! You can also take advantage of building credit as well.

I was in the same boat, my parents never bought me squat.. Not even an 8 y/o pinto. ;)

I've mentioned this before, regarding this type topic. As the OP's dad is paying for it etc.. Dad should be on here as well.

Your a great son! :tiphat:
Most kids don't give a **** about their parents.
Our parents shouldn't be using money on us anymore.
If anything we should be spoiling them.
It's their turn to relax and enjoy life!

I feel a bit like ferris bueller after reading this thread, the only gift I got from the parents was a computer, lol. Good luck mate.

Your parents raised you well.
Most of my friends were/are still are spoiled...
I think that they have a disadvantage though, once they wake up and realize that mommy and daddy won't always buy everything.

nogoodname 02-27-2009 09:01 AM

so, it's been a few pages......Whats the update from ur Dad about the 370z????

semtex 02-27-2009 10:29 AM

My brother (younger by 4 years) dropped out of high school and started getting in trouble with the law for petty stuff like graffiti. My parents came to me for help with paying his fines and legal bills, once begging me to wire $1700 to the courts so that he wouldn't have to do time. (I subsequently discovered that he had a year to pay the fine or work it off with community service, but sat on it until 2 weeks before the deadline. When I asked him why he didn't do the community service, his response was that he's done that before and didn't like it because it left him tired at the end of the day.) Then when the idiot turned 30 and still had no job, they decided that for the sake of his 'self-esteem as a man', they'd buy him a place of his own. They took $350k out of their savings and bought him a luxury condo downtown. Just like that. Handed him the keys. Here you go son, now you have your own place just like your older brother and you never have to pay a mortgage to boot. You don't have to live in our basement anymore and now you can feel like a real man. This all went down oh, 4 years ago? Yet, somehow I still feel like I just got kicked in the nuts. :nutswinger:
Yes, I know this is entirely OT, but I needed to vent.

nogoodname 02-27-2009 10:38 AM

wow........ are ur parents still paying off the condo for him??

bkunzi01 02-27-2009 10:44 AM

dont worry semtex...if you ever get into an argument with him all you have to say is "Oh, mom and dad get that for you?" LOLOL I used it on my cousin the other day he was going nuts since his dad bought him an m3 as his first car and I am buying the 370 (at 22) on my own. Sometimes you gotta just put people in there place!

No, they paid for the thing outright. But now their investments are really depleted, with the decline in stock values exacerbating the situation. They were living off of the interest and dividends generated by the principle, but now there isn't enough. And they're both retired. Guess who's going to have to figure something out? Hint -- it won't be my sibling.

nogoodname 02-27-2009 10:53 AM

^^ U'r a good man anyways....... plus rep for you

So what you're saying is, its one of the most overrated cars of all time that are like cockroaches all over Japan? lol. Seriously, every military car guy who gets their *** stationed over there gets one. Yawn.

To the OP, whatever you can get, enjoy it. But to help your odds, the idea of plastering pictures of the 370 all over the place helps. Make it your phones wallpaper. Make it your computers wallpaper. Get a poster or two. But whatever you do, don't you dare be disappointed if it ISN'T a 370 when you get it. I had a 1989 Geo Spectrum, and god damn it do I miss that car...it was an awesome beater, and being a stick, it kinda lead me the way I came rather than sticking with an automatic!

nogoodname 02-27-2009 10:56 AM

^^ yea, those are overrated, i saw a few at my college...lol

wow. I bet it still hurts. In the long run though you can look back and be proud of what you have and have done because you did it for yourself. something like that may not mean much to your brother but you seem like the kind of person who would take pride in it.

oh, and I am tired at the end of alot of days...

Yeah, funny thing, a day of hard work makes me tired too. Who would've thunk it? :bowrofl:

I finally showed my dad the car. He said that it looks nice, he said the back looks like the porsche. For the sake of argument i'm not spoiled. I'm employed by my father and I work my tail off. So it is a graduation gift plus some extra appreciation. Now we gotta see when he'll dish out the money. He said for graduation; thats in Jan. I want this for the summer. I'll keep everyone posted.

chubbs 02-28-2009 05:04 PM

Just tie him up in the garage. He'll probably have agreed by mid-May.

Good luck! I'm rootin' for you! For the record, you sound nothing like my brother. (That's a compliment.)
