i always found the best way to get what you want is to buy it yourself.... ?:tiphat:

nogoodname 02-24-2009 04:41 PM

ok....but whatever, the point is not to bring him down

his dad is buying him a car regardless.

Tell your dad that the VQ engines on the 350's and G35's were number 1 since it came out....lol....just dont mention whats the ranking with the 3.7L....lol

Otherwise, tough one. I'd say, first try to steer him towards something sporty, and then from there, keep steeeeering until you get somewhere in the neighborhood of the Z.

Show him that the last car had great crash safety results (isn't that right)? Also, show him that the Nissan V6 keeps winning best engine of the year award. Tell him that Nissan has come full circle since the early 90s and it's not the same brand that he may have an image of in his mind. Maybe those will help.

Thanks man. And to everyone that asked. Its a college graduation gift. Also I drive a 2000 mazda 626 that has given me sooo many problems. Ive spent more than 3000 out of my pocket. soo i appreciate it the gift to the max

you know what's ****** up... is when i bought my first car i had to convince my parents even tho i was paying for it 100% from my work and savings lol

u'll be fine, point out the shitty aspects of toyota and honda like they cant handle worth crap, will probably get u killed on the freeway coz they got no pull, etc.. :D

Jasonviper 02-24-2009 07:12 PM

Man klds these days! Also like the above stated, I had to beg my parents to let me buy a new car that I was paying for with my own money! I know it sounds crazy but thats the truth. What you should do is just have your parents buy you a car with a good resale value(Honda, Toyota etc....) wait six to nine months when the 2010 is availabe take that free car that you got and trade it in so you can afford your Z and at least this way you can get away with saying that you bought your on Z.
But seriously dont pressure your parents into buying something you DONT need because what you need is a safe reliable car that gets you from point A to point B.

blacknbean 02-24-2009 07:19 PM

be happy with whatever you get. my parents never bought me a car :/

but if i was buying my kid a gift it definately wouldnt be a sports car. sometihng from honda or toyota sounds good seeing as how they dont make sports cars anymore lol

lol! I told my dad about my plans to buy a 370 and next thing I know he's sending me all sorts of info on it. He'll find some articles and forward them to me... try to find good deals on it, etc. Just wants to be helpful.

Gotta love parents.

Keep your current car. Bank the money(if possible) he would use to buy a new car for you. Work and save, buy it yourself.

zsport1 02-25-2009 01:28 AM

Wish my parents would have bought me a car when I was a kid. I say take what they give you and be happy. Then get a job and earn your Z.

bkunzi01 02-25-2009 01:48 PM

If your a responsible driver etc. maybe show him your in love with the 370 and then fall back to the 350z...the 08's are going for huge discounts right now. As for getting the 370 maybe hand him a suitcase full of "IOU's" for mowing the lawn and washing cars hahahaha

The thing with gifts is that people as human beings will always bring up an excuse and ask you for a favor especially when its something that cost more than 100 bucks. I am graduating from college and well my parents are not buying me a car but you know what I already have 20% of the cost of the vehicle (which so far am undecided whether to get it in yellow or blue) to give down and thanks to the guys who posted the suggested amount that should be given down on a downpayment this will be the first car that i will be buying brand new my last car was a BMW 530i which i bought salvage and fixed up. the coolest part is am only 19 with a bachelors degree so i am going to reward myself by buying a 370z!!!!!! I currently work as a Graphic designer and make a liveable wage especially for a 19 year old who does not have a mortgage and has a full ride scholarship.

But appreciate what your dad is doing no matter what he buys you man its better than nothing and if he doesnt agree then cut him a deal tell him to give you an example a reasonable car and get him to give that much down on the Z you want and you pay the difference just a thought

nogoodname 02-25-2009 09:35 PM

19 years old with a degree already....wowsers

I'm still on the education road and i'm 20 years old...lol

whatever my parents give, i'm happy with it.........i mean they are trying to give you something nice...so be happy........later on, you can buy whatever you want....just enjoy whats given for now

k.alexander 02-25-2009 10:24 PM

Yeah, off topic. 19 with a undergrad degree...my hat off to you my friend.
