If it's under insurance, it would be better to repaint the whole bumper. I just thought it would be less work. You just blend the color in with the surrounding area. You won't be able to tell the two apart unless your color match is way off. But, I agree, for the best result, the whole bumper.

That damage is going to be like $2,000 to get it fix. Specially that the car is black and they need to match/blend the paint.

2k? No way. It should cost about 800 for a nice paint job. Maybe a little more ( or less ) if you need a cover. Our covers are actualy pretty inexpensive though.

you can fix this yourself for under $50. buy some sand paper, primer, spray touch up paint, and clearcoat and you are good. just did this on my accord and it came out surprisingly perfect

i got my paint and clearcoat from Nissan 370Z Touch Up Paint, then went to pep boys for the sand paper and primer. found a nice day and spend a couple hours to fix it, most of the time was actually spent waiting for stuff to dry.

I'd rather pay with my own money rather going through the insurance company.
They'd have to send someone over to inspect the damage and then estimate the time it'll take them to fix it. And remember your insurance premium will go up!
So in the end it's not worth it, even with your deductible.

Shouldn't cost more than $400-$500 to repaint it. Forget insurance not worth the claim.

I did the exact same thing with my old civic. (My civic was black too.) My buddy at the paint and body shop said he could sand and repaint the damaged area, but it would be obvious. Total bill with "friends and fam" discount came out to about $650 to sand and repaint the entire bumper.

I ended up having my other buddy (detailer) wet sand the fine scratches and buff the hell out of it. Then, he went over all of the paint chips with a paint pen, let it dry overnight, and hit it with the wet sand again. (very fine sandpaper both times) Finally a nice buff and wax, and the only place you could see any damage was where the plastic bumper was damaged (much like yours)

Of course, doing this takes a lot off the clear layer, so it probably wasn't the best option, but I was just getting the car ready to sell so I could buy the Z

That's not gonna buff out, it will need to be repainted. But look on the bright side, maybe you can black out the rear valance =).
