Crush gasket needed?
Hey guys quick question. I am switching over to Mobil 1 synth. oil and probably just going to use the Mobil1 filter, do I still need the crush gasket that is needed with the Nissan oil filter? I assume yes but want to make sure for any who have used that filter.
Thanks, Nik

It's recommended you use a new washer, but it doesn't have to be a crush-style washer. My dad used 2 or 3 washers for the entire life of his previous car with no issue, but I'll be switching mine out every oil change.

ive re-used nissan crush washers in the past. no issue. as long as the washer is in decent shape (no serious corrosion) no leaks.
as noted above, it's recommended though. |

The crush washer is only there to make you feel safer that you would not be leaking oil from the drain plug. Realistically, the drain plug is enough to seal the oil in the motor/oil pan.

I've reused the crush washer as well without issue. Though I did finally swing by the dealership and pick up a pack of 20 or so. Now I switch to a fresh washer at each oil change.

My suggestion is to replace it. It cost less than a buck. It's basically a gasket. Gasket 101 is: Never reuse. It's pretty cheap insurance don't you think?
It also might be one less, "I'm going through a lot of oil. Is this normal?" threads. |

The OEM filter, at least when I ordered it, came with the copper washer. He's concerned because the M1 filter does not come with the washer included.

Here you go:
Drain Plug Washer - Oil Pan - 2000-2004 Xterra V6/SC - 10 Pack :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com And for this price, it's foolish not to use a new one every time.

nice link. autoparts stores should just stock those and make them locally available and convenient. such a hassle going to the dealer just to get a couple crush washers when you use aftermarket filters...
