Not sure what your question has to do with the oil filter. Anyway, the copper crush washer for the drain plug only costs a buck at the dealership. Your choice. I got an aftermarket magnetic drain plug and it came with a regular washer. Either is fine. The more important thing is torquing the plug to the right specs. See AK's DIY oil change post.

My suggestion is to replace it. It cost less than a buck. It's basically a gasket. Gasket 101 is: Never reuse. It's pretty cheap insurance don't you think?
It also might be one less, "I'm going through a lot of oil. Is this normal?" threads.

The OEM filter, at least when I ordered it, came with the copper washer. He's concerned because the M1 filter does not come with the washer included.
