This is why the z is a hard sell!

2009 Nissan 370Z - $36,455

Please look at this joke of a ad for a Z sale. This is a new Z from 2009 that hasn't sold and it has NO TOURING PACKAGE, NO SPORTS PACKAGE! Its probably a demonstrator for all we know and he's asking over $36,000. Lmfao! What a joke. This car retailed at 31,900 in 2009!!
When I do searches, I see ridiculous adds like this all day long. Its ludacris.
We are 4 months away from the 2011 models. 2009 produced only 10,000 units of the 370z, yet, and there are still hundreds of 09 models on the market. And all being sold like they are 2010 models or even higher... I don't believe that there's no market for this car. I believe Nissan dealers bought into the rave reviews and are just plain old trying to get over so it won't sell on the prices they attempt to get them for. What's your take on this ad?

Jeffblue 07-19-2010 10:15 AM

we gotta be careful, if there are too many 09's left over, some of the D-bags from MY350z might pick one up and infiltrate our ranks.

That's the MSRP and their asking starting price. I'm sure you can talk them down to like 30K or lower easy... Thats what I did with my 09 but that was back in January. So I would expect this to sell less.

370Zsteve 07-19-2010 10:33 AM

No crime to ask top $$$ for a car if you can find some sucker to buy it.

kenchan 07-19-2010 10:34 AM

yah, some suckers do pay top dollar to buy a car.

Then most of our threads would go off topic inside of 3 followup posts like theirs do...

Oh, Wait....

Did you hear that Peter North is selling his Z?

:roflpuke2:

But yes -- if you pay $36k for a 2009 370 you deserve to get ripped off!!!

Jeffblue 07-19-2010 11:41 AM

...off topic? we don't go off topic ... next thing you're gonna say is that peter north is selling his Z.

:iagree: From what I can tell, you could probably buy that Z for nearly 10k less if you haggle correctly.

For 36k, it'd better have touring at least, and probably sport.

Well, it's also a 7AT, which means it's faster than 6MT, and if they're running properly cooled oil, LOOK OUT. Also, I hear there's a translucent Z out there somewhere.

frost 07-19-2010 11:47 AM

I emailed the seller a picture of peter north showing his big fat cock. My work here is done.

ON topic, i for 1000 dollars more, i got touring/sport/nav 2010! That is actually a comical price they are asking.

m4a1mustang 07-19-2010 11:53 AM

I remember when I was going to buy my 2009 back in March '09 when these things were still really new and VERY rare. First number the dealer gave me was $42,900 not including tax and what not. LOL.

I got it down to $37k OTD, which worked out to a few hundred under invoice.

frost 07-19-2010 11:55 AM

People post what they pay here all the time, and it's obvious that one should not even pay invoice for this car, because most are paying $500 under.

At the same time, you can generalize that to most automobiles. A dealer can sell at invoice and make a profit in many cases.

Anyone who pays MSRP didn't do their homework.

Especially after the "new" wore off. I think all of us early adopters were getting good deals at invoice to 500 under. Now on leftover stock you can get like $3k under invoice.

Kirkster 07-19-2010 11:59 AM

I payed less than invoice on my loaded Roadster... Still have yet to see another one on the road but the stealerships seem to have a boatload.

Now if it only came with those Miata doors.

Miata doors are like a $50,000 option.

yeah, just because one pays under invoice doesn't mean they are stealing from the dealer. Your average car buyer negotiates a car deal every few years, whereas the car people do this 10-20 times a day. No one is going to steel from the dealer, they make it back somehow. This is truth 100% of the time, no matter how much they tell you about "how you're robbing them blind" as you sign the paperwork.

:iagree: Again, do your homework as a consumer. Read up on places like bank websites or automotive magazines about how dealers operate. It's fairly impossible to screw a dealer. If you low-ball them, they'll say no.

word, sometimes they even call you and tell you that you didn't make your $1000 down payment. Or sometimes they mug you in the parking lot.

frost 07-19-2010 12:24 PM

When I bought my trans am late on a friday, they called me up Monday and said "we need another $2k on the downpayment." I told them no. They said, well, then we will have to modify the contract to raise the interest rate. I again told them no. They said, well, you have to do one of those, or you will have to give the car back. I said "okay, I'm on my way." They called me up while driving over there, they somehow made the deal work. I know there are reputable dealers out there somewhere, but people hate car dealers for a reason.

And people who are only marginally interested in cars and finances have it the worst. They're not going to be bothered to learn "the language of the deal". They might make the classic mistakes of buying based solely on monthly payment, allowing the dealer to place them in a car, or being afraid to walk away if the numbers don't suit.

Hell, part of my routine is that I never accept the deal on the first day, even if I like the numbers. I always leave the dealership for a few days to sleep on and digest all that has occurred. Salesmen, especially sales managers, hate me for this.

The BlueMax 07-19-2010 01:35 PM

I feel sorry for the people who payed too much for their Zs, but you have to do your homework and being a good sales negoiator doesn't hurt. Dealers will always try and get top dollar for the 370s during the summer months [In Season] then sit back on the leftover inventory and get the what they can. Buy in the winter months, this is especially true for motorcycles. Hey frost what are the paticulars on your Trans Am purchase, these cars are undervalued right now. I have a 97 WS6 with 40K that I love to compair and contrast with the 370.

WHAT!!? Did no one catch this... this is NOT MSRP! Especially not in 09. The base msrp of the 370z in 09 was 29,930. With destination it was $30,650. Add $1300 for the auto and you get to $31,950. Throw in every accessory and you have 32,500.
36,455 is msrp for a 2010 base, sport package, auto with all the accessories with 0 miles. Being that we are 4 months away from 2011 the most I can possibly see him advertising for is invoice. Which is 28k range. If you think that 36455 is a good asking price to work from??? I'm taking 2013 pre orders... gimmie 5 grand now and I will make sure you will have a 2013 Z in 2012. I accept cash only? Lol

PapoZalsa 07-19-2010 05:12 PM

Most of the 370Z left over are the ones without Sport Package which not too many people are interested!

BTW, that price is just ridiculous!!

Laugh in his face and walk out.

I had a dealer try and tell me a 2009 sport w touring with 5K on it and visibile damage to the front chin spoiler was a "new" car simply because it hadn't been titled yet :icon14:

He wanted 40K for it -- the dealer's wife was driving it around, so maybe they weren't too keen to part with it. She can continue to drive it for all I care.
