removing trunk spoiler
Hello
I'm in the market for a 370Z and I was wondering if it is possible to remove the trunk spoiler that comes on the sport package? I know most people like it, but I'm not one of them. I love the design of the 370Z except for that one detail. Thanks in advance guys. |

Your not alone, I also do not like the rear spoiler! It's probably held on by screws or some kind of glue! You should order what you want, and specify, "no rear spoiler"!

Funny thing . . .
Funny thing though, . . . when the "official" pictures
were released from Nissan, it showed (I guess) a base model with the Sport package wheels (Rays 19" inch wheels). I thought it looked real nice without the rear spoiler. Not so "fast and furious", a lot more mature sports car. My thoughts . . . . . |

I happen to love the look with the spoiler, so I'm happy it's included with the Sport Package. |

Yes, it would be possible. It will probably be attached to the body with a few bolts/screws under the plastic trim in the trunk lid.
If you remove it, having removed the trim without damaging it, you will then need to fill holes in the bodywork, smooth it down, treat it paint it, etc. ...So why not just just leave the spoiler in place? When you come to sell the car, most people will like it.

Most dealers won't do the swap because it will put them in an odd spot with the remaining car you swap to/from. granted, all they would have to do would be to add the front spoiler and then they have the 'aerodynamic package', but I think they know that the sports package is selling the spoilers more than anything else.

$400.00 or $500.00 for a piece of plastic, that probably cost them $40.00, no thanks. I don't like the way it makes the Z look, I think it looks better without it.

If it's anything like the 350z OEM spoiler, it will be held to the hatch by a few screws and strong tape. I replaced mine on the 350 and it was a b!tch to get off... the tape has a extremely good bond.

With the hatch lid being aluminum we can probably expect some other bracket on the inside, as well as fasteners (No, I am not going to a photo essay on how to remove and replace the rear spoiler as the Service Manual will show all this info ).
So we get screwed out of the pliers, screwdriver, and fog light, but get the chin and rear spoiler? Man, where is the justice? |

I think . . .
I think that I will shoot out an email
to Nissan to see if I could order the Sports Package without the rear spoiler. A dealer told me that it is not possible, but it is worth a try. If you could do it in Japan, why not USA. Heck, even the 370Z at the LA Auto show does not have a rear spoiler. It has a nice clean look. Go figure. . Last edited by TN370ZLC; 02-23-2009 at 08:31 PM. |

Amen. But then again, look how much the yen prices nickel and dime you. I remember my father asking about removing the spoiler on the pony, and a workshop guy in the background laughed. To be honest, so was I

I fully expected that some wouldn't want the spoiler,
but the number in this thread surprises me. The spoiler works for me, but I can appreciate that this would be a real PITA if you don't like/want it. IDK how easy the hatch would be to remove, but I'm sure there will be base owners that would love to swap. I've seen it done with the G35 trunk spoilers many times. |
