Curious about locking your keys in the Z?

But say you're a pretty little blonde sitting in the car at a stop light in the bad part of town with the fob in your purse. Do you really want a boogyman to be able to run up and push a button and get in your car with you?
Good question. I wonder if it acts the same way if someone is seated in the car!

Worth a try, methinks.

No, and I always lock the car with the button on the door handle; two beeps would be all I got when I locked it. I have tried leaving the car with the fob inside (without having another fob on me) and it beeps like crazy. So I think the test would be to have both fobs, leave one in the car, have the other in your pocket, and try to leave/lock the car. I don't know if the wife's fob was in the cargo area the whole time, or if they found it elsewhere and put it there.

It would be great if the logic was published. I can almost guarentee you that if there is a way to lock the fob/s in the car, I will find it! ...and probably and the worst possible time.

I think if the car is running and in gear, that you can't just come up to it from the outside and hit the button to unlock it. But i've not tried it so can't be for sure on this.

yea i think its part of a safety thing not to allow u to unlock the door with the fob inside. like yea if someone was trying to "hurt you physically" and you chose to lock urself in ur car to protect urself. it'd be pretty stupid for it to let the person in

Tested it. With two fobs, car not running, I put fob "a" in the cup holder, fob "b" in my pocket, closed the door, and locked it with the button under the outside door handle. Two beeps; car locks. I unlock it, lock it again, two beeps. Walk away. Leave fob "b" in house, go to car (fob "a" still in cup holder), try to unlock, will not unlock. Get fob "b" from house, car unlocks. Leaving fob "a" in car did not make it behave any different than if it wasn't in there. Of course if I try to lock the car without having a fob on me, and have a fob in the cup holder, it beeps like crazy when I try to lock it.

The only stupid thing I find about the Key is that if the car is on, you can drive away without the key, even that later you can't turn it on again, but why not go to the extra mile and have a cutoff, after certain distance like most of the keyless cars. Also I want my car to lock automatically when I walk away and it doesnt do it. Lame.

Other than that I do like the push button

let me give you a scenario, you're driving your car, the battery dies in your key or the key malfunctions. how do you think that would turn out under the right circumstances?

make the key beep at me when the battery is low so it doesn't happen; like any other device that operate with battery

But you are right.
