Oh and to those that are wondering how the young guys are getting their cars... It's called FINANCING. And everyone wonders why our fake economy (credit this, credit that) is falling on its face?

Anyway, with that aside, those guys work hard for what they want. Hats off especially to those that save up and pay in CASH. Not many people their age have that kind of discipline.

FINANCING is great.... ......but in the 70's when some of us were your age......that was not an option......Jimmy Carter was president and interest rates were 21%........now go figure the payments on your car with those rates........now please dont take that the wrong way.....I am an old fart just trying to put some perspective on the financing option here...ok?
and I am sure the young guys work hard....and my hat comes off to them......at least they have their priorities in the right place......and they sure do know what kind of car to go in debt for....now dont they.......?

I was 25 when I purchased mine--just had a birthday and I financed the majority. I purchased black with sport package. No one else in my city has one and I get nods from 350 owners everywhere. I have no other bills besides my 52 inch LCD in my living room and rent and utilities. It only made sense to go ahead and buy a car. I am doing my part to support the economy.

Financing for sure, but you've still got to be making good money to be able to afford the monthly payment if you finance the whole deal. The general rule of thumb is that a car payment should be no more than 1/5th of your monthly after-tax income. I think you'll find that most everyone here puts down a pretty decent chunk of change up front and finances the remainder. I could buy the car now but no way am I going to stick myself with a $600+ monthly payment. That's almost half of a rent payment. Need to put at least $10k down.

But you're right. I don't think any of us here would be driving these cars unless we knew we could afford to do it. So props to everyone.

I am a web developer in DC. So, we make bank since there aren't that many. Most of us can bill 100+ an hour full time. I didn't pay cash for the whole car, but I put 25K down, and I plan to pay it off within 2009.

I work for a contracting company called Disys. They found me on Monster and I liked their offer, so I moved to DC. I write software that tracks illegal commodity trading for the Federal gov't. Do you still do web development?

I don't. I haven't bothered with any programming in 5 years. Anyway, it seems that you have a great job. I hope you get some bonuses on the side because the cost of living in DC sucks.

22...paying 670/month starting this saturday. Not too hard to pay for when I work full time as engineer and live at home...only expenses being my car, car insurance, and credit card lol
