Whoever is making generalizations about autos and manuals on performance is overlooking the fact that for the 370Z, it has lock up in each gear, so there is virtually no difference in power transfer, as reflected in nearly the same whp for the AT as the MT on the dyno. Also, the fastest times I've seen listed on here and in magazines all belong to the autos -- less human error and no missed shifts plus about the same power and torque means equal or better performance on the average. Sorry guys, it may not be a DSG, but the auto on these cars is also not your traditional slushbox, and consequently the AT 370Z's are as fast or faster than the MT's even with a good driver.

To me the MT vs AT discussion has nothing to do with which one is faster now a days. The evidence points that both are equal to the task of getting the car down the road. My personal reason for loving the MT. It forces you to pay attention to the task of driving. On a regular basis i see dudes who drive AT's texting, talking on the phone while phone is in hand, or eating a damn burger while driving. If you an MT, your *** is driving and paying attention. Period. Very difficult to drive in traffic and text, talk w/o handsfree or eat if you have a MT. So you end up just driving your car and paying attention to what your vehicle is doing vs. the surroundings. Kinda like it was meant to be. Get yourself an AT and you are guaranteeing a distracted driver.

I always blip the throttle shifting into gears because it sounds nice in manual mode. Whats with this "D" business?
Do you guys like to never worry about traffic jams in your Z like us AT guys? Edit: with inclines

The Car and Driver tests say 4.6 for 0-60, and they tested 4.9 for the MT and 5.2 for the Nismo, so the AT seems nicely faste most of the time
Interesting to me that the MT fans seem more defensive then the AT posters. (An AT fan) |

Not defensive. Just having a little fun. Really I will buy the MT for as long as MTs are availible. Which is 2012.

But I don't on this debate, because I think it's silly on its merits. This car is fun and fast regardless of tranny. And if it's your money to spend, it's your choice imo. Just enjoy what you've got. |
