Was i ripped off or what?

Ok already posted on here about my 370 being hit in a parking lot.Anyway
Dealership fixed it.It came out perfect as far as i can tell.Long story short i'm not trying to rip of the insurance company so when my car was hit it had a black front bra cover.I know bad idea that is where im heading though. When dealer when to put on the new cover i told them just to give it to me the car looked better without it. So anyway i went back today to return the cover and they told me they couldn't refund the money to me since it was an insurance claim the refund should go to the insurance. So what do you guys think. I did pay for that cover new less then 30 days before i got hit.Am i out of line thinking i should get the refund.Sorry to ramble.

I wouldn't worry about it. Keep it handy for any long trips you may be taking in the future.

Dealer did the right thing. You should have told the insurance company that you didn't want them to replace the cover, just provide you with reimbursement for what it cost you (assuming you had the receipt - if you didn't, you'd be out of luck).

Just sell the cover on eBay...

Yah, id keep it too if you already had it. As posted above use it when you need to take longer trips.

yeah i thought about that but the 09 is a pain in the -ss to put on
compared to the 350. plus damage to the paint. it was the idea i paid for it,it was covered under insurance.its not liked i asked for my 19in wheel back which
was barely scratched.

oh well i did get my diminished value claim

Are you going to sell it? LMK

Was the original cover damaged?

Yes the cover was damaged.

I'm trying to figure out how you would come to the conclusion that you were ripped off in this particular situation.

You purchased the original cover, and it was damaged in the accident. The insurance company was obligated to repair the damage and replace the cover. If you contact the insurance adjuster, they would probably authorize the dealer to refund the money to you upon return of the new cover. You do not achieve betterment in this deal. You either keep the new cover, or return the new cover and receive a refund to recoup the value of the original cover that was damaged

thank you. your statement makes sense. since i did pay for the cover new,and it was only 1 month old i should get my money back for the cover or a new cover. i chose the refund.

TongMan 07-09-2010 08:04 AM

Somehow I think that you got your first cover for cheap or for free and now you want to make a profit by returning the new cover for full price...

probably false...but you never know...normally a person would just keep it since they bought it in the first place, but you were insistant on returning it.
