A light would come on indicating it was time to shift for best economy. If it sensed that you were going hard through the gears then it changed to show the best point for full power runs. Silly - yes, useful - yes at $4/gal. I believe there was a fuel economy gauge as well. I think the guy at the factory told me it was basically a vacuum gauge.
