If he has no similar claims that would cause them to raise an eyebrow, he should be able to just get the cash for them, which he can use to spend however he wants.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Same thing happened to my last vehicle last year.
What to do? Make a plan for getting wheels back on it. Stock wheels will be delivered to the dealer not your home. You'll need a means of transporting them to you since you're vehicle is immobile. Once you have the new wheels do you have the tools to mount them? In my case the insurance company allowed me to replace my stolen wheels with aftermarkets as long as the cost did not exceed the oem replacement cost. Used Tirerack and had them delivered to my home. Used a tow company to assist with the install. Preventing? Almost impossible. My advice is to think like a thief. They want to be quick and quiet. Anything you get to slow them down and make noise is a plus and encourages them to move to an easier target. |

Depends on your insurance company. Most of the time they will just cut a check for replacement cost of the item that was stolen. You then take the money and but the wheels you want.

Mine was on blocks same as yours. Aside from the wheels no additional damage was done to vehicle (or atleast found). I asked the dealer to run some checks when I took it in to have the new tire pressure sensors paired to the vehicle.

it aggrivates me so much to see our cars like that. Every night that i go out to my driveway to put the garbage out or something, i walk past where i used to park my Z (before i garaged it for the 3 days it was outside of my house) and just wonder what kind of spineless piece of **** does this, and how they rationalize it. For future, get a viper alarm with a tilt sensor, how much range you want is your call. i got smart start just for the added range. Make sure your tilt sensor is set pretty sensitive though, they don't need much clearance to get your wheels off. Its not the same kind of thing as when you change your wheels. They need a tiny bit of room and sometimes they can just slide bricks under and deflate your tires.
These people have almost ruined my enjoyment of this car. I am constantly paranoid about it if its not in my garage. I dont want to go to the mall or movies or beach or any place where its not in eyesight. now i'm worried that when i get aftermarket wheels, i'll be screwed b/c if i want them replaced i will have to wait so long. It makes me just want to put hub caps on my car because these people will steal anything else. has anyone here ever had aftermarket rims stolen? were they covered by ins? Good luck with your situation, and i'd take the money if i was you. If you think this will happen again just get the OEM wheels again. If you aren't worried, get some thing real nice. Just keep in mind, the scariest part is these people know where you live, and once you get the wheels put on they can come back and do it again. dont have your wheels replaced until you have an alarm lined up and ready to install that day.... sorry for rambling. |

true that. the only place i never worry about it is in my garage. when i park at work i can look out the window and see it so i'm not worried there either. I guess my paranoia will prevent me from parking in places where i'll get dings and stuff so its no the end of the world.
OP call around now and find local installers. Use the viper website Viper - Store Locator to find a local shop and get some quotes. They will most likely have to order the kit you want so get moving on this now. It will probably run you around 1k all in (more or less depending on what features you go with/remote start/smart start/add ons etc) |

they don't. and our OEM **** locks are the worst. They only stop honest people. Its easy to get them off with bolt with reverse teeth that slice right into the lock to grip it and turn it as if it wasn't even there.
a fellow member had his stolen with the locks installed. The only ones i've seen that seem to be impossible to get off are called "black top wheel locks" BlackTop Wheel locks - Unconventional Wheel locks Unfortunately they are only made for german spec wheel bolts/lug nuts. Are there any lug nuts out there that would essentially have the bolt head size of the german style bolts but would fit on our Japanese cars? I emailed the company that sells these to ask, but if anyone else knows please shed some light. It seems like these wheel locks could actually do what they are advertised and make it impossible to get the wheel off. |
