370 overheated/no oil
i had a loud ping noise coming from the engine sounded like the pistons where about to jump out my engine block so i quickly took the car to the dealer nd they told their was no oil in the car....i always changed the oil on time about every 4000 miles the car has only 18000 miles on...alsoo their was no check oil or engine light that ever came upp. this is unbeliveable
|
Do you have the touring package?
|

they say i need a new engine wich coasts 11grand nd are tryin to say that its a lack of maitance nd its my fault.. this deffenatly has to be me a lemon nd/or due to the oil cooler issue ...nissan better give me a new z or there gunna have this one sitting infront of there dealer ship with a string of lemons around it sayin "i bought this pice of junnk here." nd a big time lawsuit
|
Did you have all the oil changes at the dealership?
|
no i havent but got all the papers too prove that it has been changed
|
i didnt buy a $40,000 car to have it overheat nd blow up on me. im extreamly angry and want answers asapp...im sure it will happen more frequently down the road to more 370 owners... nissan has thier hands full with this one

To the OP -- sounds like either the oil pump failed or you had a major oil leak somewhere... the dealership just claimed that the crankcase was dry??? :icon14: |
not likely if you actually maintain your car... I change my oil about every 1500 miles... So far I havnt really lost much... I thrash this thing in the canyons as much as possible and I do not have a light foot.
You def got an abnormal one or just didnt notice something serious. If you can prove the oil was changed correctly I dont see why nissan wouldnt cover this one. GL and keep us updated. |
their was not a drip of oil leaking from anywhere...what do you mean dry crankcase

The oil had to go somewhere if it was in there... I can't imagine you had it all evaporate as blow-by... either something failed (a seal, the pump, etc.) or you punched a hole in the oil pan while driving (hit any big bumps, potholes?). The problem is, if there is no clear evidence of mechanical failure, it may be tough to prove you simply didn't run it without oil... |

hahahah that's like saying detailing your car too much is bad... I don't think you understand when I say I flog my car - I really do flog it... I red-line it once or twice per trip...
Different strokes for different folks my friend. But she runs like butter and frequent oil changes never hurt anything. My first ~4000 miles I changed the oil once every 1000 miles - you will never believe how much metal filings came out of the engine. I am happy to be able to spoil my car with frequent oil changes ... I understand not everyone does it that frequently - but a few extra bucks is a petty amount to pay for peace of mind. |
if you have the records showing that you changed the oil and recorded the mileages, then you should be fine. if the dealership gives you grief, get on the horn with NNA using their 1-800 number. if you don't, you are probably screwed. and the ECU is mostly looking for things that are related emissions and the sensors that effect them so a SES light would probably not come on unless it was from an o2 fault in combo with knock sensor. the oil pressure light should have come on if there was that much of a problem though.
