Well if you were indeed running the engine without any oil, then you can definitely expect some big headaches, either now, or further down the line.

I'm surprised you can afford a 40,000 dollar car with your god awful spelling. May I ask who has ever payed you 40k, when you spell every word in a sentence wrong?
Maybe where ever you got the oil done forgot to put the new oil in. Drained it and then let you drive off. Improbable but possible. |

I'm going to have to say that if you changed your own oil, you really don't have much of a leg to stand on honestly. Relying on the oil light to tell you that your oil is low is like playing Russian Roulette with 5 bullets. That's what they make a dipstick for.
Do you change the crush washer when you change your oil? That's the first thought that came to my mind was that all of the oil leaked around the filter. Just a WAG, but something to ponder. I would sure do my best before they try to clean of any part of the engine to figure out where the oil came out. If you had actually burned that much oil, you would have noticed it, so I think leaking is your only option. Last edited by TreeSemdyZee; 06-30-2010 at 10:31 PM. |

OH boy! IBTL However, I check my oil regularly. If there is a drastic oil consumption I will notify or go by the dealer so it can be place on my car records.

When did you last have the oil changed? It seems to me when you change the oil there are three possible scenarios that could cause this problem: 1) the drain plug fell out; 2) the oil filter was installed wrong (old gasket was still attached, etc.) 3) the oil fill cap wasn't put back on (although I don't think all the oil could escaped that way). Any of these problems would leave oil all over the place. Very curious in what they find.

When did you last check the oil level?
Also, something smells fishy here. Did the dealer say they found a leak? If not, they are trying to say that since you last checked your oil level you've burned around 5 quarts of oil - is there any evidence of that (like carbon deposits on the exhaust tips)? Did you notice any smoke out the tailpipe? I think your dealer is full of shite... Have the car towed to another dealer or an independent mechanic that you trust and have them look at the car. |

That is why I always check the dipstick if I take the car to the dealer for an oil change.
