Anyone ever get stopped for missing front plate?

I live in TX. It's a great state even though it is a bit warm (and as I have come to learn, the Z doesn't really like that too much) but here in TX they MANDATE a front license plate. Well, today on my way home from work (in Dallas) I did a little random sampling and the best I could tell is that about 1 in 20 cars don't have front plates. Most every BMW, Corvette, Infinity, Mercedes, and Lexus I saw didn't.

So, for those of you living in a state where they are required by law yet you don't have one installed, do you get harassed much?

I currently have one on mine but hate it. Not just appearance wise but I honestly thing it messes with the air flow to the radiator a bit.

yup i got told by an off-duty state trooper that if he ever saw me again with it off he would write me up! of course i had to put it on since i drove pass his house everyday going to and coming from work. i think the car looks so much better without it but oh well

Sucks to get hassled.. but yes, getting pulled over does happen quite a bit, both in Texas and California for sure.

We've sold a lot of these.. give flexibility to when you want to rock the plate, when you don't.. (I know a lot of guys have used this to just get the fix-it ticket taken care of, or parking in certain places.. here in CA they will send meter maids to write tickets for no front plate)

I'm lucky enough to live where the front plate is not required. Yes, it sucks to be you living where it's a law. The 370 looks so much better without a front plate, IMHO.

I have not run a front plate on any of my cars since 2004 and I have only been pulled over once. That one time it was in a very small town courtesy of the good old boy speed trap. Although, I was not speeding. I have several friends who are cops and they tell me that most cops in large cities will not bother to pull you over for not running a front plate only. He went on to advise that their captain tells them not to as they have more important things to do. But, they will add it on if you are already pulled over for a speeding or other moving violation.

I think I've only ever been stopped once or twice... ever. I will never put a front plate on and if I do get stopped I will simply pay the measly fine and go back to no plate.

Nothing more than a lame revenue collecting law. Like we don't have enough of that crap huh?

with the 370 i have yet to be hassled for no front plate. been pulled over 2 times and neither for plate....i only put the plate on when i'm going out at night, don't want to have to deal w/cops then.

Got one, works well and doesn't look that bad even though it's off center. Use it when I have to go into Chicago or when I have to park at o'hare airport, they just drive around the airport parking lot to look for missing front plates... Got my only plate ticket there, one day before the Stillen holder was delivered.
Other then that, front plate is off. And yes, in Illinois a front plate is required.

no front plate gives law enforcement an automatic reason to pull you over, hope you don't order a drink with your dinner

Jesse_Hunter 06-24-2010 11:15 PM

I have been pulled over in my old eclipse because the trooper claimed he didn't see that I did infact have a front plate. I don't mind having it on my Z I think it looks fine.

Yeah I totally agree with this. I love the fact that cops will tailgate me all the time only to realize they have absolutely no excuse to use for pulling me over, and drive off.

:iagree: there are a lot of cars in texas without front plates
:iagree: it's a valid reason to be pulled over
:iagree: it's usually a tag on ticket to other violations.
:iagree: agree with getting and loving the stillen plate bracket

i know that the town i live in would have a field day if they saw me with no front plate, they are haters:shakes head:

Red370 06-25-2010 12:49 AM

put it in your front window, problem solved.

i wish that was the case here. I've been pulled over in a different vehicle using that method. I've even seen people mount them to the bottom of their passenger sun visor and drive with it down all the time...front bumper or violation :shakes head:

Again, its usually just a reason for them to pull you over and look for other crap on your car/record.

I believe the law says it just has to be visible from the front. So the particular officers that ticketed you were just being douchebags. BTW, I lived in Texas for the better part of 8 years, never mounted a front plate, never ticketed. Oh yeah, now I live in OK, have Texas plates, and still dont have a plate on the front and I drive onto a military installation 4 times a day. Front plates ruin the looks of the car, im sorry, to me, they just do. I refuse, regardless if I get a ticket or not, to put one on.
