I live in California and I used to get pulled over all the time for front plate. Once even by 4 cops on foot. Just bought an out of state 370Z and I love how cops pull up beside me for either front plate or tint. Then drop back behind me to find out of state tags. Then they speed off.

8 months and never pulled over for no front plate... thought all was good until the other day I got a ticket while I was parked at the mall. Didn't even think that could happen.

Been pulled over 4 times for no front plate. First time was a Tx state trooper. I informed him I had the plate in the car and thought it was only legal if on the front bumper and he said no as long as it is visable. The 3 other times were near my neighborhood where the cops patrol. I did have the plate inside on the windshield but since that is not normally where they are they pulled me over anyway. I guess they just look at one place and none others. I bet they would have never noticed if the wife was flashing them or something

Hey another McKinney Z. No problems so far in the year I've had the car. And I know they've seen me without the front lic plate. Just don't give them a reason to pull you over.

plate
I live in Montana. By law I am supposed to have a front plate. I drove my 350 for 3 yrs. without it and have been driving my 370 nismo for about 6 mo's without it. I have never been stopped and hope I am not because the holder looks like **** and I don't want to drill holes in my car.

Front plates
Typically, the answer that the state troopers in Ohio give is that the front plate bracket isn't just a revenue collecting law, but it does serve a purpose. Supposedly, you are required to have it since more and more states are going to laser speed detection instead of old K and Ka band radar and they need a flat spot to aim the laser at. That being said, most cars these days aren't square enough to have many flat spots to aim at, so we are likely to see more and more laws requiring front plates over the next couple of years.
So, in the end, it's still just a way to take more money from you. I personally would rather be fined for no plate than to have it on there and make it easier for them to get me for speeding |
