Hyundai 5.0 to take on Mustang with 429 horsepower? — Autoblog

m4a1mustang 06-23-2010 02:55 PM

Haha, it's like the late 60s all over again.

Which means in 5 years we'll all be driving 150 hp pieces of crap.

Modshack 06-23-2010 02:59 PM

This should be fun!.....

No matter how you look at it, it's a car produced by a company who specializes in cranking out brand new $9970 pieces of ****. A company who never before this decade produced anything worth mentioning. A company who has no past experience building a true sports car.

Do they make a damn good economy car? You betcha. Would I ever drive a Hyundai over a Nissan? Hell no, mainly for the reasons I stated above.

Can't polish a turd

the_student 06-23-2010 04:03 PM

....really? Man, I want to see if Nissan will follow suit. If so, you'll find me in the V8 Z haha.

Huh?
But Datsun was in racing leagues with previous cars, had produced some good quality vehicles, but no sports car. The 240z was a break through and many did say similar things, but Datsun had brought the Z from racing, Hyundai as I know did not do this. I am sure they want the gen coupe to get into racing leagues and take on some of the more established cars.

This.

Hyundai's quality has skyrocketed over the last decade and the reviews on the Genesis coupe bear that out. On paper the car closely lines up with a later model G35. That is very impresive for a first go at a real sports coupe. I would seriously consider one if the price is in the right ball park. The question for Hyundai is can the attract enough sports coupe buyers with the correct features/price ratio. They can't charge Nissan prices for the same performance in the same way Nissan can't charge Porsche prices for the same performance. Will they have enough room to wiggle on the price to build a following is the only real question.

Sure, sure. I wasn't saying Hyundai won't become a respected sports car maker in the future. The fact of the matter is, at this point, Hyundai has no soul, driving spirit, or racing heritage. Nissan does, and lots of it. I'm proud to own a brand new Z because of the history of the car. I feel accomplished. I would not be able to feel the same way about a Hyundai.

It's kind of like comparing other sporty sedans to the STi or Evo. There just is no comparison to be made for a die-hard motorsports fan.

Well they have to start somewhere to be able to get that history/heritage, and this would make a pretty good start much better if it happens!

wishihadnav 06-23-2010 05:59 PM

Hyundai has plenty of racing heritage..just not on the tracks..all i use to see on the news back in the 80's was some dude in an Excel racing down Slauson or Crenshaw trying to ditch the cops..haha..

CBRich 06-23-2010 06:09 PM

Datsun was already mentioned but what about Nissan and Toyota? They were considered Jap Crap. You sound like my grandfather talking about a Toyota.

in case of toyota, your grandpa got it right, even today.

mjd77 06-23-2010 07:23 PM

Give Hyundai about 5 more years and it wouldn't surprise me if they surpass Honda in sales...that is if Honda keeps going in the wrong direction with their boring designs and lack of any kind of sports coupe or sports car...same goes for Toyota. Honda and Toyota are the poster children for making cars with no soul.

"Toyota has a long history in motorsports and has been active in North American racing circuits since the 1970s. Fans have witnessed Toyota victories in races including the Indianapolis 500, the Daytona 24 Hours, the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Baja 1000, the Grand Am Road Racing Series, National Hot Rod Association races, the Championship Auto Racing Team (CART) series and the Pikes Peak Hill Climb where the Toyota Celica still holds the world record. In 2004, Toyota entered the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, becoming the first manufacturer to be invited into the NASCAR professional racing ranks outside of the original domestic U.S.-based manufacturers. During this inaugural season in the series, Toyota Tundras visited victory lane four times and recorded five pole positions as well as 25 top-five finishes."

The LF-A is way out of 99.9% of people's price range. Way, way overpriced.

So, since that's really the only sports car Toyota is producing today, they really have nothing practical or affordable (like the 370Z or Genesis Coupe). Toyota hasn't made anything fun since the Supra.

the funny part is u wont find a hynudai for 9970.. but yo will find a nissan (versa)

and every company had the same start as you are saying about Hyundai, except for Hyundai is making strides faster than the ther ones did back in their day.

to say would i "ever" drive a hyundai is just plain stupid. You dont know what will happen in 10 years and if you do, can i have the lottery numbers please. thanx.

English. You don't even make any sense.

Do some research next time you try to prove somebody wrong :ugh2:

Hyundai Accent... $9970 MSRP

Hyundai Accent: Safe, Small Cars - More Interior Than Corolla & Civic | Hyundai

Not to mention it's terrible compared to a base model Versa. That's more my point than that Hyundai cars are cheap in cost.

You completely missed my point, actually. I can't even believe people who bought new Z's would even argue a Hyundai is in the same league. It's just not, end of story. The 370Z is the 6th generation of Z-car sports car for Nissan. The Genesis Coupe is Hyundai's first. I will say again; Hyundai is good at making a budget beater car. They are not yet good at making a sports car. That's at least 5 years off.

CBRich 06-23-2010 08:50 PM

Show me why the Genesis is not in the same league as the 370.
