Which One First??

What's up everyone!

I have a tough decision to make that I would like some input on. I am planning to have my Mine's rear spoiler and Top Secret front lip clearcoated to protect them from fading/yellowing. I also will be installing an oil cooler shortly. My question is, which one should I do first??

I am in AZ so we have lots of sun (fading of the carbon fiber) and heat (HOT OIL!!!). That said, my Z is not in the sun very much as I either work from home where it is garaged, and my office has underground parking. My only driving comes from my fun drives, and occasionally a client call here in AZ. I am not tracking the car yet, but do have 'fun' drives when I do drive.

I plan to do one of these at the end of next month and the other in Feb/March of 2011. Help me decide por favor!!

The egg!!!!

I am not going to lie, I didn't read what you said but I am sure the egg came first...

Sibze 06-16-2010 03:30 PM

Ok now I have actually gone through it...

If you don't drive the car hard I would do the clearcoat first...

Clearcoat the oil cooler

kenchan 06-16-2010 03:36 PM

 you should just remove the bits from your car to get them clearcoated WHILE you work on your oil cooler install.

be done with it simultaneously within the same week.

Since you don't track the z you don't need an oil cooler. But you need to put clearcoat on your cf.

Better yet... PAINT the CF. It was supposed to be a lightweight, strong replacement for metal or fiberglass parts. Not a new auto fashion trend.

I'm sure they both already have a quality clearcoat finish.. Most cosmetic CF does.

Endgame 06-16-2010 04:23 PM

You guys crack me up.

Mod - I think the rear lip has a quality clear on it, but I am not 100% about the TS front lip. It looks more like a gel coat....

Since when??

The CF trend has been around for years!!! A few people really use CF for weight reduction.

Yes it has been around for years... PAINTED. CF should be used for weight reduction. Why else would you replace a body panel or door panel with... another one exactaly the same if not for weight reduction?

I can understand a lip or wing left unpainted but what's the attraction to CF being a "cosmetic" touch? I mean seriously... it's just straight up ugly! :shakes head:

edit: I guess the problem lies in the "trend" part of it. But to each their own!

I agree with you 100% as far as big items like hoods and such, but as a cosmetic "garnish", to me so long as it is jet black cf, it's no different than having a black garnish item.

That said, flat black works fine for me, and is a lot less expensive.

I really don't understand unpainted cf fenders -- looks even more out of place than an unpainted hood -- ugh :icon14:

To the OP: Might as well put extra clear on the cf -- it will look like dogshit if it starts to turn yellow...
