1st run in with the Lawzzzzzzzz
Hey so just wanted to say i got pulled over for the first time in my Z last Sat.
Heres the story...... I had just finished swimming at my apt, me and a friend of mine were headed downtown to a local bar. It was roughly 7 pm, still broad daylight. I was excited to get to bar, in a generally good mood. I was driving on a service road beside a main freeway. I was at a red light, the light turned green, and I may have accelerated a little quickly and up to a speed slightly over the speed limit on said road. After I was up to speed and cruising I glanced back at what appeared to be a white Dodge charger, at closer inspection I realized it might have been a local sheriff's charger. I proceeded to ask my friend "Brandon, is that a cop?" He replyed with "Hmmm.... I think that is a cop". Right after his reply, I got hit with the lights. :eekdance: The officer proceeded up to my window, hand on pistol and asked me for my license and insurance, and proceeded to tell me I was going 54 in a 45. I have a Passport, that never went off during entire pull over process. So I think maybe he just used his speed tailing me to determain that I was speeding. My friend then proceeds to lean down, look out my window, and say "Hey (insert name of cop)". The cop greeted him back, busted out the tint gun to make sure I was legal, handed me my license back and gave me a verbal warning. Overall he was a nice guy, although I am certain things wouldn't have gone so smoothly if my friend wouldn't have happened to be in the car. You see, My friend is in Police academy, and the cop that just happened to pull me over was his instructor! :happydance: In closing, I'm almost certain the cop was directly behind me at that red light and I just wasn't paying attention at all. :driving: |
Gotta pay attention! Don't you hate those situations??
The richer areas where I live have all different types of unmarked police cars that pull you over. Chargers, Jeeps etc. It's those moments you feel like an idiot and just wish you would have paid more attention. I'm glad you got away with just a warning. Moral of the story, don't rely on just your radar. And always look in your mirror :P |
Glad you got a warning.
Best tip I can ever give folks, and I think it's why I have more warnings than tickets, is to just be courteous and passive with the police if you know you're in the wrong. "Please, thank you, sir/ma'am"... Also, follow the instructions to a tee. It also helps if you inform them of little things, like "My registration is in the glove compartment. I'm going to reach for it now." Fact is, although it's a stressful situation, they're doing their job, and even if it's a routine stop, a cop has no reason to assume that. They get guns pulled on them, people trying to run them over, etc, etc... So, if you're generally pleasant and courteous and just go along with stuff, they tend to be a little lenient. Not always, but it works from time to time. And if you're an attractive woman, you know that the pitiful story and waterworks can do the trick. Not that I'm advocating dishonesty, just sayin'... |
I think the reason why I tend to not pay attention here is because, There are quiet a bit of gang crimes, thefts, drug problems, etc here. In 6 years of living here, this is first time I have ever been pulled over by cop car, I pass them speeding all the time. Fact is, 99% of speeding violations here are issued by motorcycles, so thats what I am paying attention to. Espec because they don't have a constant radar, my passport only picks them up when the click the gun, then it's too late, and they almost always tend to be ********. Every officer I have ever delt with in a car as a passanger in another vehicle was pretty nice and easy going. Most of the patrol officers have better things to do/ places to be than mess with traffic. I really believe the only reason i got pulled over this time was because of my loud exhaust, and flashy sports car, also maybe the shadowed tails, althought he didn't even mention them.

9 mph over the speed limit is picky for getting pulled over. Usually, there's a 10 mph cushion, unless one is in a construction zone or school. In those situations, I drive at or below the posted limit.

Where can I get myself one of those cop probies? Are they expensive to get? :eekdance:

haha you got lucky your friend was there dude!

When I was looking at it trying to tell, I was only seeing the front end. :p I have always went by a (5 mph) cusion. Alot of the main roads in my city however, might as well be a nascar race.... |

Confusius say better to be pulled over on way to bar then to get pulled over after leaving bar
ps I never get out of tickets and I am nothing but courteous to the officers. They don't like my face I guess. :shakes head: |
I've gotten pulled over twice since I got my Z last August and they've only been in April. 1st was for going 49 in a 35. Cop was cool and I mentioned I was running late for church and that I was new to the area...obviously it being a Sunday morning and being in a suit vouched for church and my license having an out of town address vouches for being new to the area. He just said that its 35 in the city limits and let me go.
Then a few weeks later it was late at night and I was heading home from a friends house that lives an hour away from me and I was tired and lazy so I just casually ran through a stop sign and the next car headed down the road happened to be a cop. So he saw the whole thing and swinged around and pulled me over. I knew I wasn't going to get out of that one but the guy was really nice and I was nice to him. I understand he is just doing his job and I wasn't doing a good job w/ paying attention to the posted signs. He kept complimenting my car I just wish he would have cut me some slack. Anyways, it was a $85 ticket and I couldn't plea nolo as I did so less than 5 years ago on a really expensive speeding ticket. I would have preferred my first ticket to be a speeding ticket since I have a sports car and probably deserve one but I'll settle for this. |
I always drive 5mph over on the streets, even passing cops, and have never even been looked at funny for it. The tickets I used to get back in the day listed fines starting at 7mph over, so I just figured anything under that was cool.
I got my first ticket in over a decade last month, 59 in a 45 in the Z. He was nice enough to ignore the fact that I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. |
I think i've become overly paranoid, I constantly look for police at all times while driving haha. Glad you got away with a warning, I don't think i've ever seen someone do 45 on the service roads around here =]
|
I too got very lucky the other night. Coming home about 2 in the morning should have known better 80 in a 55. But i was nice and didn't acted pissed off or anything got off with a warning. The one thing i do miss is the digital speed dial
on the 350 it was easier to keep up with how fast i'm going. |

Woah, That should have been an arrest, I'd say you did! |
If he didn't radar you, he couldn't ticket you anyway. That's why he gave you a warning. Speedo checks aren't concrete for a ticket. If you see that he was driving when he pulled you over and he accused you of speeding. Ask to see the radar gun. If he can't produce a reading to upload into the system. He can't give you a ticket. And... he can't fake the ticket cuz the mph anf time of ticket have to coincide.

Few weeks ago, I was driving on the highway. This black pickup truck drives by me in a much higher speed than me (I'm already doing 75 in 65). So, two seconds later, I see this 2000 year model Purple Honda Accord Coupe driving fast following that black truck. I'm saying, "wtf is going on". Within seconds, the Honda Accord turned on all it's "hidden" flashing lights. Yup, it's an undercover cop. I was like . You'll be surprised what kind cars they have undercover these days! Quote:

I've heard the same thing about the radar situation. I believe that could be fought in court and dropped. No proof of speed, no basis for a ticket, IMO. Although keep in mind that just because you don't get clocked speeding, police can normally find something to ticket you on regardless. I had a cop friend tell me once that an officer may need to breathalizer, or field test for a DWI, but don't have to do anything for a P.I. So he was practically saying an officer needs no probable cause or proof to write you a P.I. He can base it off his opinion, if he is a ****, he has the tools to work the outcome in his favor. |
The last time I got pulled over I pulled out my buddies CHP card, put it on top of my papers, handed it to the cop that pulled over and said it was brother in law. He let me go with a warning. I keep that card right under my license.

I find it very irritating that governments focus on speed so much as if this was the only and major factor in road safety. There are many more factors that contribute to road safety. I guess speed is easily measurable and therefore a good and easy way to raise revenue from the roadside. Why are the other factors continually ignored??

We also have powerful lobbying firms that have gone to bed with the private and public sector to ensure that certain issues don't come to light and make the consumer that much wiser. |
