Gear Shift Will Kill me
Alright, I am getting fed up with this issue. Why is shifting into second so clunky and non-smooth? It kinda catches half way and I always have to use some extra force to get it into second. The rest of the gears are kind of OK.
I have driven other manual cars and the Z's gears seem to be a weak point. Any ideas? Suggestions? |

you may want the dealer to check that it's not a bad syncro in the tranny

Its just one of those transmissions and it requires finesse when shifting especially in the winter when its cold. I have worked around mine by just getting used to the feel. My first shift in the morning is usually a 1 to 3 going downhill just to avoid that first 1-2 shift. Just shift real slow when its cold, it will smooth out after it warms up.

If its really bad you can spend some time getting it checked out but most likely it's just a normal Z characteristic, you can always try swapping out the tranny fluid

It takes getting used to the car, luckly coming from a 350Z was not much difference.

Direct input transmission = clunkadunk-dunk.

If you take a good browse throughout these threads, you'll find out that MTs in Zs are just a bit clunky--just a little bit--, but most of the posters here are young ones, so they seem to adjust pretty well to it. Me? I'm a 61-year-old man, so I went the AT way, and am loving it each and every day. Greetings!

Haha, it seems like you havent driven a first generation G35. After that car every manual tranny including the Z drives like butter. :)
BTW i can shift from 1st - 2nd with one finger. I don't know what your issue is. |

Only thing I notice is that downshifting into first is tough unless I'm going pretty damned slow. I don't really mind though because it definitely keeps me from inadvertently over-revving the motor by accidentally dropping the car into first.

you need to push the clutch in ALL the way - not 1/2 not 3/4
