Stealership story!!
Thought i would relay a story i heard at my dealership today.
Took my 370 by today to schedule a oil change and order a set of locking lug nuts for my car. So anyway when i tell the service rep i need my 3000 mile oil change he says that's a good idea,so i say what do you mean. He says a guy just left his 370 that had only 8500 miles on it and had never changed the oil. When he brought it in it only had a quart and a half of oil in it and the engine had locked up or blown up and expected it to be covered under warranty.Well anyway that's not happening but the service guy said new engine would run around 14,000 grand does that sound about right? sorry to ramble that just shocked me! Plus one of his 19in rims was bent which he said was 1100 a rim! |
Hmmmm. That is interesting. GM's new LSX crate motor that pushes 600+ HP and 550+ pound feet of torque, with all kind of 7 liter Z06 stuff runs for about $12,000. I'm just saying.....

If at the dealership I would believe it. Acura, Toyota, Lexus I have seen 14k+ long blocks from all three.
|
No, the engine is around 9-10k tops.
Also, technically the oil is meant to be changed around 7k miles so the dealership could have a case against him for not paying for a new engine, but I think they were just trying to instill fear into you. |
I did my oil change right after the 1,200 break-in, they put a sticker for the next one due like at 8,000 miles.
I will never go over 3 to 4,000 miles even when I'm using synthetic. |

Yeah i think your right. I was just amazed this guy ran the crap out of his car and brought it in with one quart of oil in it and wanted then to fix it after 8500 miles on it. they said his rear tires looked liked they had 25,000 miles on them! |
ahhh one side of the story, but i wouldnt be surprised if someone ragged on their car. its not exactly a toyota corolla.
|
if my motor blew, i'd get an LSX or something and have the ******* fastest Z
|
Right on the nose, Dreamer. The Owners Manual allows for a 7,500-mile oil change under specified conditions (i.e. not driving on dusty roads, little or no stop'n'go traffic, no hauling, etc.) I do mine at that schedule with no problemo. I seldom put that many miles on her anyway--usually 4,000-a-year, so I got a 3,500-mile leeway to play with.
