Srm on!
im 21 years old and can drive manual VERY well. I could heel-toe like a champion in my single turbo 350z when I had it. Since i've had the 370z I think I took SRM off once just to figure out how the button works. Not gonna lie, after reading this thread I turned SRM off just to see if I could still heel-toe and wow was I surprised. I'm EXTREMELY rusty, and thats an understatement. Not only did my heel-toe technique suffer, but my upshifts and my downshifts were sloppy as well. It took me a few minutes of driving before I was able to properly rev match a downshift. Needless to say, we are totally spoiled with synchro rev match. Good thing my next car will be a GTR and I wont have to worry about brushing up on my skills

Yeah, but a flappy-paddle gearbox is not a real/traditional manual gearbox.

I agree. But with the current technology, pure manual car can no longer provide the best acceleration any more. For a lot of sports cars nowadays, the "auto" is actually faster than the "standard"

Maybe so, but a purest/traditionalist who enjoys a manual gearbox was what I was referring to. (BTW, I voted SRM off.)

I agree with you on this as well. A pure manual will always give the driver the best control for the car. I personally would take a manual over any form of automatic any day, but keep that in mind that a manual is also more prone to human errors. I personally like to have SRM on at all time. This isn't my first manual car, but I just find it make my shifting much smoother than what I could've done just by myself

The auto-transmission might be 0.2-0.4s faster than a stick-shift in 0-62 under hard acceleration, but, how often do you do those kind of acceleration in real world? So that fraction of time difference in practical use means almost nothing (at least to me). What does matter, is the enjoyment of fully control the car yourself and having fun doing heel-toe when you feel like to. Just my $0.02, of course, you like it, use it!! But let your heel do some exercise sometimes. LOL |
