I actually drive around with a pen, notebook, and calculator and calculate exactly what engine speed i need to rev to based on how fast i am going and in what gear i intend to shift into. You want to see quick shifting? come for a ride with me!

I keep it on, which has spoiled me a bit, but i do have one grudge with the SRM.....it maintains speed, or keeps the rpm's up, when downshifting to around 4-5000 rpm. (not every time though) usually while in a turn. pretty dangerous actually
I started a thread about this a while back but no cause or solution has been found. also i like to shift to neutral sometimes when decelerating to a stop instead of downshifting, but when i do that the rpm's scream to 5 or 6000 expecting me to shift from 6th to 3rd or something. not very pleasant |

why not just keep it in gear until around 20 mph. even if you are cruising in 4,5,6, it will aid in stopping, save your breaks, and it wont wear out your driveline any faster. i'm not saying downshift to slow down. i'm just saying keep it in gear, brake like you would if you were driving an auto, and when you're about to come to a stop or slow roll just clutch and brake, put it in neutral or 1st and wait for the green light. coasting in neutral is kind of dangerous. if out of nowhere some dbag came up fast in your rear view and was about to rear end you, you'd be screwed. |

Only turned it on 3 times. Twice doing a hard canyon run and comparing it with my skill with it on and off and the other time i was dead tired at night coming home and just turned it on so all i have to do is just clutch and shift.
I could get hooked on it and lose my foot "touch", that is why i dont turn it on. BTW OP: You don't fool yourself , you cant be better than syncro. You can be as good at times but u cant be better because its revmatches are perfect.

Absolutely agree with you on the last part. I personally keep it on all the time. Only turned it off couple times since I got the car to see if I can shift smoothly enough w/out it, and the answer is...never. There's just simply no way a driver can match the engine rev as well as the computer.

I used to keep it on all the time but now I usually have it turned off because of the 4.08 gears. The gears ruin it, on the downshift and the upshift. I'm sure it will only get worse with a more aggressive clutch. I wonder if a tuner can adjust the the SRM feature to compensate for the gears?

I normally keep it on. But that is interesting that the 4.08s mess with it. Good to know because the 4.08s I am interested in getting in the future. I will have to look into this more.

But don't get me wrong, the gears MORE than make up for the minor inconvenience.

I just love the sound when you downshift.
Or the sound when you put it in neutral and immediately move the knob to the left (not in 1st or 2nd, just in neutral to the left). But I hear this only blips the throttle without engaging in a gear on SOME Z's. Anyone else confirm?

Always on.
I remember after I installed my CF shifter ring, I guess it jammed the SRM button in off mode. Drove like 100 meters and was like, "WTF is wrong with my Z lol"...I had to pull over, find a tool to flip the console up, dislodge the button..."phew" lol

It threw me off at first because that was how I always drove stick. So I turned it off, until I realized the car can do it better than I can... It's such a cool feature! Always on now.
