Wsup fellas..

I might be new to switching gears off a 6 spd so maybe this may be a newb thing. But, wanna see how other ppl feel..

When I wear regular shoes, I can't really feel how much i'm pressing down on the accelerator and the clutch compared to when i'm wearing chucks!!

You can feel the sensitive accelerator as you're pushing it down so not much clunking while switching gears.. ESP from 1st to 2nd..
**yes, i'm not used to the car yet... so sad

CHUCKS FTW!!!

another thought...
At what rpms do you guys shift?
from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd???
a: during normal traffic
b: when racing

Also, what's our ideal rpm to be switching when racing?
I heard that at a certain point, you pass your "powerband" so all you're doing is just revving the engine.. This guy bsing me? Or is there some truth to what he's saying???
Whenever I see youtube clips of people boning out, they always push it pass the redline..

Chuck Taylors are some of the best driving shoes I've ever used IMO.

As far as shifting.. Normal driving I usually shift anywhere between 2500-3500rpm depending on the situation.
As far as the powerband goes...there is truth in that. But you have to look at it from both sides, if you shift higher when you get into the next gear you'll be closer to the powerband potentially then if you would have shifted earlier to get out of the powerband where it ends. The powerband ends at around 7200? To be honest I don't really pay attention to that when I'm shifting higher in the RPM, I'm a little more concerned with the road than the difference of 300rpm on the top end.

BTW racing is not condoned on this forum.

haha...my favorite shoes to drive in are my old beat up Sperry top-siders (boat shoes). The soles are so thin that I can feel everything in the clutch and I seem to drive a lot smoother in them than any other shoe.

Shoes make a difference. My thick-soled boots feel different than my normal work shoes or sneakers. And barefoot driving is something different altogether (I endorse trying it at least once). But you should be able to adjust to the difference in feel within a few minutes of driving. I usually just drive gently until I feel comfortable.

I had a pair of tight puma racing shoes, and I loved to drive in them, too. Great feel.

I have a few thin sole Pumas of various styles they are def the best feeling. So much that when I wear my New Balance running sneakers it takes a few to get adjusted. Work dress shoes are pretty good too!

I learned how to drive my first manual by going out barefoot. It's funny you can actually tell a difference.

Yeah same here. It feels so much better barefoot.
