Default Death Of The Magazine Stat!!!

0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers are irrevelent in the "real world". If the cars does or doesn't launch well it will have a huge impact on this stat. Evo's have good 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, but are horrible above 80mph. If a car has under a 5sec 0-60 and less than 14sec 1/4 mile time it is considered "fast". Most of my driving is done on the hwy. A more important number to me would be a 40-100 mph time. When will magazines get away from drag strip statistics?

Because most of the people dont do most of their driving on the interstates. And we want to know the times that are a standard out there and most can relate to that stat and not the moving stat. Besides I want to know who I can beat off the line.

Prob never. I could honestly care less about a 40-100 time but I see your reasoning. Irrelevant the times may be for the "real road" its what car enthusiasts care about and are benchmark performance statistics. nothing will change that.

They are the standards set down years ago as the determinents, our cars perform better from 40-100 though. My old 83 Z-28 would catch any evo on the highway and push on by because of the evos poor areodynamics.

Because you don't go from a 40 roll when doing a drag race on an actual drag strip. They also provide you with slalom, track times, skidpad, and other things for your handling and track style statistics.

I agree with all of you, but should a car be down graded because the tires don't hook-up well or the surface was slick? I figure a stat dedicated to the meat of the powerband would be more beneficial.

Trap speeds are what's most important when judging how fast a car is. Magazines generally post these when a 1/4 mile run is done.

real world: most people never floor there cars. which is sad, and also why most people don't realize how slow their cars are. I think they kind of imagine that they could totally go a lot faster, and they just choose not to.

I live my life a 1/4 mile at a time so these 40-100 times I don't need

All it is ego stats to me. My Z won't see a track just city/highway and a little spirited backroad driving. So 1/4 mile etc. is just good reading material in car comparos.

I much prefer the magazine articles that list the cars' times from 0 all the way up to 150mph in 10mph increments.

All I really care about is that off a red light everyone is a city block behind me by the time I get to the speed limit. Simple as that.

This also reflects on the quality of the tire tha manufacturer uses, keeping them honest in a way. Put on crap tires.....die in the stats war.
