Default How will i tell if the dealer really replaced my engine or not?

I pumped in apparantly 3/4 a tank of water into my Gas tank. This gas station had water in thier tanks. To make a long story short, it killed my engine.

Now the dealership has my car and in less than a week says they've replaced my engine...i find that hard to belive its not like VQ37's are just laying about.

Now maybe im wrong and they were able to get one this fast. But my real question is since they say its a new engine...Is there an engine stamp on the original engine with the VIN...when i pick up my car i want to be able to verify that an new engine was put in.

I just don't belive they could do this in 4 days time. I think they cleaned out the lines, and the tank, and just billed the insurance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ask them to give you the bill of materials that you are being asked by insurance to provide in your claim .

This story sounds a little fishy.......Water in your fuel would cause the engine to stop (no combustion material doh!) long before it would trash an engine. What's the real story? If you got a bill for $8-10,000 they might have (unnecessarily).....Or not.

This is not a warranty item...What was the bill? Insurance scam?

It turns out that the insurance only paid out about a grand and a half and they are now saying that Nissan replaced the engine under warranty.(and they only told me this because i wanted a list of parts that were charged to the insurance)..if this isn't warranty item..oh well its done and over now...i only had to pay 600bux out of pocket to get the car back.

The dealerships story sounded way fishy...first i had new fuel lines and a fuel tank...then the story changed to we cleaned the fuel tank, and blew out the fuel lines. (only after asking for that list!)

To address the other issue of how the motor might be trashed id say its possible....after the car died..i triend to get to turn over till the battery died...because it sounded like it wanted to run. The dealer no doubt did the same.

The dealership checked the compression...and had 0 on 4/6 cylinders (supposely).

The car runs like a champ now...but i still don't think they replaced the engine...and i just want to verify it....
The invoice just listed N/C for items related to the engine replacement...oh and a burned up starter motor..lol.

Personally i think they scammed nissan for a VQ37hr to keep in thier stock to sell to someone at the 9k price tag somewhere down the line.

i thought there was an engine stamp somewhere like the old Zs so i could tell if its the original engine still in my car or not.

The build sheet for your car does contain the engine # and vin #
It does sound like the dealers doing something fishy.

If it was replaced or fixed under warranty, why did the ins and you pay anything?

There was a guy on this forum from Australia who took water into his engine during a recent flood and his car was written off because the engine needed to be replaced. So replacing the engine sounds fishy to me.

The insurance company was not aware that my engine was replaced. They and I paid for cleaning the fuel tank and lines and a fuel injector job.

The engine was supposely provided by nissan at no charge..

why would they file a warranty claim if the damage is caused by water getting into the engine? sounds like the stealership is running a massive scam on someone
