That's not a whole lot of miles...a Corvette would probably be a little less, I imagine. So, gas prices aren't that big of a concern.

My beef with the Z mostly comes down to that I chose the 7AT over the 6MT - I wanted a 6MT, but couldn't get one, and took a "better deal" from the dealership. I also wanted platinum...but again, they were of course telling me that if I had to order it from another dealer or from Japan, that there'll be charges associated with it. More than likely, had I stuck to my guns, I wouldn't be considering anything else.

But...having driven the corvette, it's a damn fine car. Even though it is a base model, I'm not that worried about it.

The only thing about this specific car that I'm 50/50 on, is the color. Looks amazing in black, but, given what I go through with the Z (also black), I think my OCD will find a 6th gear...lol

I've had cheap cars all my life - the Z is the most expensive car I've had. It has a lot of plastic inside....but I find the seats in the corvette, and the feeling of more room, better.

Maybe I'm seeing through rose-colored glasses...but I will say the ride in the Z is definately sharper on bumps...that was clear to me.
Just curious. Have you considered getting a very-slightly-used vette somewhere? May bring that price tag down a bump. I'm personally of the mind that I like brand new cars better, but if you can find one with, say, 5k miles on it, that would definitely bring the price closer.

Older folks drive vettes? So what, why let stereotypes push you away from having a really nice sports car? And even though the design is a bit old it still looks fantastic in my opinion and I would think most people think the same if you happen to be worried about what others think. The only thing I’d be worry about is the insurance; I hear it’s quite high for vettes.
I just got a quote from my insurance agent...

My insurance will go up a whole $4.22 every 6mo over the Z.

lol!

I laughed when my agent told me - I said I'm making a difficult decision, and you couldn't make it easier by making it a lot more or a lot less?

She laughed as well, and said, well I could make it higher, if that helps.

FWIW, I purchased my 09 Z06 (now traded) in March 09 for $13K under MSRP. Not sure what the current market, but deals can still be had.

Don't pay MSRP for the vette. Some dealers are giving them away. Go here: Corvette C6 - C1 Reviews, Performance, Parts For Sale - CorvetteForum.com and look at the forum dealers. I know a guy who got a 4LT for less than that 1LT. If if was me... I'd go at least 2LT. 1LT is missing a few airbags :O Also, mag suspension>>>> Z51 (personal experience as well as performance testing).

Ive seen the 2LT for 42K on USAA and that is not talking about the trade in. Thats 5K under invoice with the incentives and 8,800k below MSRP. Im sure you can get that even without going thru USAA as they are still hurting in sales and money. I would talk that price before talking the trade in.

42K for a 2lt does make things tempting.

My buddy has a C6 Z06. VERY NICE. I contiplated a Z06 before I pitted the Exige against the Z. I am almost done with my mods on the Z. Naturally the Z is not as fast in a straight line, but I was looking for a great looking and fun car. With my mods, I love my Z much more than my buddies Z06 (he does also).

In the end, do what makes you feel good and right without killing yourself financially. You will not be going wrong with either choice IMO.

Please don't get the Camaro. I don't think it's worth it. The car is fugly and has no sex appeal to it.

imo the design was ok when it was fresh. Now that my region is saturated with them, the look has worn thin on me. I test drove it against the Z before purchase. Loved the sound and feel of acceleration. Hated the "big boat" feel of it. Also, the interior trim of this particular brand new model was peeling from the dash. That's right, already falling apart.

Don't get me wrong, I could have bought the absolute base Camaro and modded the crap out of it for what I spent on the Z. But it just didn't feel right.

That's my biggest beef about the Camaro. It looks like a boat. I actually prefer the Challenger over the Camaro because it looks better, seems to reflect the original lines of the historical car, and doesn't look like it's been squished down the middle and bulging out the side.

Your choice i've owned both two very different animals.
But the vette is the only other 2 seater i would ever consider.

Before I bought the Z I drove a brand new jet stream blue model with Z51 2LT I think. The car was nice but the interior was horrible, there was water in both headlights! I don't think I've ever seen anybody under age 55 driving one.

I'd go for a "gently used" GT-R over a vette any day. Well I prefer my Z over a vette, but that's beside the point. Seems like your power hungry, and a GT-R would easily cure that problem with only a simple tune it's an 11.0 sec 1/4 mile car...

The Camaro was pretty hot when concept photos were released... back in 2006. By the time they hit the streets the car already felt like it was 3 years old!!! Because it was!!!
