Default Should I let Dealer re-paint rear bumper? Need your help.

There were a few stone chips on the rear bumper when I bought my Z.

There were also a few MINOR scratches on the outer edge of the bumper/fender behind the wheel. They tried to rub them out, but they're still noticeable.

I do not like the look, but I could live with it, rather than have a paint job that doesn't match the rest of my Z.

Also, it looks like when they buffed waxed it for delivery, they tore off the Z part of the emblem, and stuck it back on, because it's a little crooked, and when I wax, I have to be careful not to catch it with my micro towel. A new paint job would include new emblems.

The Dealer offered to re-paint the whole bumper, but when I was told that the Brilliant Silver is a very hard color to match, I elected to have them just touch up the chips. I wasn't ready to make the final decision at the time.

I didn't want to take the chance of the paint job not matching the rest of the Z.

The Dealer still wants to do the re-paint at no charge.

The bumper is vynal, so there's no worry about rust, and the Dealer says that if I let them re-paint the whole bumper, that it's guaranteed for as long as I own the Z.

I would like your opinions regarding this issue. Do you think I should let them paint it? Or should I cut my losses and leave "well enough" alone?

Do you think the Brilliant Silver will match well, or do you think it will stand out as being re-painted?

Should the bumper be removed and painted, or would a tape-off be OK?

I DON'T want them to fog into the rear quarters.

I appreciate your input on this situation. Let's face it guys, these 370Z's are real special to all of us, and for that reason alone, the only place I would turn for advice is to this Forum. I know you guys understand where I am coming from here, and why I'm asking for your help.

Thanks.

For as much as we pay for our cars, I'd make them repaint it. The "it's a hard color to match" is a cop-out in case they can't match it. A good paint guy can match it. They would need to remove it to do it right.
If they don't get it to match, then they can just do it over until they get it right.
I'm kind of picky when it comes to a new car. If there are going to be scratches I want them to be caused by me.

Um, its not hard to match paint on a brand new car. One thats several years old and thats sat in the sun and faded, yeah, but not a new car.

If the dealer can't promise matching, tell them to pay for it to be done at a body shop of your choice.

I always take my cars to either a custom paint shop or the Mercedes dealership for body work.

I got my front bumper replaced, the dealer body shop did match the factory color paint good. However they did not pay attention to details.

Try to find out how there paint job comes out.
