I'm really sorry to hear about your loss.

I always have believed in "Middle Eastern" justice. Steal another man's belongings? Lose a finger. Steal twice? Lose another finger. Eventually you're going to quit stealing. End of story. I know that goes down bad with some people but I hate thieves, I truly hate them.

Three weeks ago we were visiting my mom in Billings, MT (my hometown) and my wife made some business calls while we were there. I was visiting a friend when she called at noon to say the rental car had been broken into while it was parked in an outdoor parking lot in the middle of the day. They got her cell phone, check book, address book and our house keys among other stuff. I flew home right away to change the locks on the doors; vacation cut short. She knows she made a mistake by not putting her bag in the trunk.

Theft is not a victimless crime; it can be devastating, demoralizing, and truly hurtful. A thief is a self-centered and often times heartless piece of crap that makes his living in a liberal society where judges and lawmakers lack the moral fiber to say Enough is Enough!

In reality, every security measure can be ineffective if the thief is really determined. But each measure can make it more difficult.

For example, I know people who've had things stolen out of their car merely because the doors weren't locked, whereas my car with locked doors was parked right next to them but left alone. Had a thief wanted badly enough, a broken window would've done the trick. But just locking the doors deterred a petty thief one night.

Studies have shown that noisy car alarms are largely ignored by the public. They don't come running to see what's happening or call for help if it's someone else's car.

I think one should layer their approach... Wheel locks, a shock sensor, locked doors, well-lit parking space right next to the house... But even then, if a thief times his event carefully enough, he can still get what he wants.

People are just scum-asses in general. Sorry this happened to Jeff.

Another thing people should do is turn the steering wheel all the way to one side. It's a major PITA to get the front wheels off. There's not enough space to pull the rim off in the wheel well.

I walk my dogs late at night and sometimes I pass buy a house trigger the alarm and two spot lights go on, and i get startled. I am sure that can deter an thief.

I like to daydream of various theft deterrents. I would never do any of these but it is fun to think about.

1. Sulphuric acid in glass capsules in the wheel wells rigged to explode on illegal removal of wheels.
2. A spring loaded steel spike under the drivers seat if the car is started without the proper key.
3. A remote controlled explosive device which can be activated at any time by the owner of the car.

Feel free to add your own favorites. These are for entertainment only. Obviously if you do any of these you might kill yourself or injure an innocent person accidently. So don't try this at home LOL.

I wonder...should I get 4 more sets of locking lugs, that way you need 5 different lug-keys to take off one wheel. (that or 5 sockets to hammer on to the locks, per wheel)


That would definately be enough of a PITA that most thugzzz wouldn't bother.

You don't even have to hammer a socket on.

I bought some wheel locker remove easy-out sockets that you just slide on like normal and they grip into the locking lugnut and remove it. I bought them cause I lost the key to the ones on my mustang.

\Which is why wheel locks are pretty useless. A thief who wants your wheels is gonna have the tools to do the job...

Where in NY are you? They got all 4 of mine in Queens and left my car on rocks damaging the rocker panels.

When metal values were skyrocketing and the theft of catalytic converters was going up as well, someone broke into the local Infiniti dealership and cut a bunch of cats out. But they were lazy theives, instead of climbing the fence, they used the same tools they used to cut the cats out, to just hack a big hole in the fence :owned:

I've always thought about rigging a magnetron (like from a microwave) pointed at the driver's seat if the car was started by a thief.

i dont think theres any damage to the rocker panels, i put the car up on the wheels that i used to have on my altima, to get it off the ground and so it was driveable to put on the flatbed. If anyone wants to see what a 18x8.5" wide +45 offset chrome wheel looks like in the back of a 370z let me know. It doesn't look good
