Default Help me - something weird is going on!

Ok guys, this is really bothering me.. Yesterday my car started giving me lag @ the gas pedal.. About 1 full second delay when I floor it, then slowly raises rpm to 4k, then she starts giving power. Well I thought the insane heat had something to do with it, so I decided to wait until this morning before I post.

As soon as I started the car this morning, the "service engine soon" light came on. I checked the gas cap, it's tight. But the car once again rips around and burns rubber as usual.

Currently has almost 2900km, oil change was done at 2000km (ester oil)

Any idea WTF is going on? And is this normal to get the light near 3k km? Thanks in advance.

You might see if a local auto parts store such as an Autozone or equivalent has a OBDII reader you can use to check the code you are throwing. Then at least you'd have an idea of what is the issue and work from there. It doesn't sound like a gas cap issue to me but the OBDII would let you know. Being normal depends on what the nature of the code you are throwing is. For instance if it were gas cap related, then yes. However, if it was a hose or sensor problem then I'd say no. Let us know what you find out.

SEL can be a number of things besides the gas cap. A CANBus communications or diagnostics failure can trip the SEL, and it will go away or reset after a few successive starts. So something's gone awry, but hopefully nothing too serious.

A few owners reported the car going into limp mode one day and acting strange, and the problem never came back after the next engine start.

Could it be the gas? I've been using sunoco up until the day before, and filled up at esso this time. Still running 91 octane though.

I've certainly had bad experiences with certain gas stations before... but your first step is to check the code. The OBDII readers are a lot cheaper than years past.... find a friend with one, or buy one.

It shouldn't be the gas. Your car would be making a pinging sound if it was a lower octane

DO NOT reset your ECU to clear the codes. Seeing as how the OP has an appointment with the dealer to diagnose the issue clearing the code will actually hurt the process since the code might dissapear only to come back again later. I only recommend clearing codes if you know what the issue is.
