Is the 370z a hatchback, liftback, or fastback?

Not sure if this has been discussed but I didn't find anything on here regarding this question. It was a question that came up among my friends and I.

Here's what wikipedia says:

Hatchback - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Liftback - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fastback - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So what say you?

kenchan 05-26-2010 02:49 PM

it's a 2 door station wagon.

theDreamer 05-26-2010 02:51 PM

Sports car?

Zaku 05-26-2010 02:54 PM

I thought it was Fastback. A hatchback/liftback would sorta require the hatch door to be close to like a Minivan or like a Golf GTI or Civic SI hatch. A liftback woulds slope down like an AE86 but sometimes their just like hatchback like the Yaris. And a Fastback would be like an RSX or a mustang. I think.... if I'm wrong correct me guys I think it's a fast back. But would it even apply since 370z are considered coupes? and not a hot hatch.

Fastback

Lemers 05-26-2010 03:16 PM

I tried looking something simular up before. Convertible vs roadster vs spyder. The only conclusion I came is that in the past certain terms meant certain things but now it's just up to the company to lable it what it wants to. No real binding industry standard.

VCuomo 05-26-2010 03:48 PM

Per the Wiki definitions, it would seem that the 370Z is a fastback-shaped liftback (it is both a fastback and a liftback).

Lemers 05-26-2010 03:55 PM

But Nissan calls it a coupe. No industry standard.

wishihadnav 05-26-2010 04:27 PM

OK - it's a fastback-shaped liftback coupe. :)

Ricochet48 05-26-2010 06:25 PM

I call my RSX a sporty hatchback and would call the Z a sports car... that has a hatchback

unixpunk 05-26-2010 07:22 PM

My vote is for calling it a fastback just because the fastback article linked lists the original Z S30 body as a fastback and we all want to consider the 370z part of that heritage, am I right?

REAR HATCH OPENER SWITCH
The rear hatch can be opened by pushing the
rear hatch opener switch when the Intelligent
Key is within the operating range of the rear
hatch lock/unlock function regardless of the
inside lock knob position. (See “INTELLIGENT
KEY SYSTEM” earlier in this section.)
To close the rear hatch, push it down securely.

3-17 of your owners manual, if you call something a hatch more then 3 times in the same paragraph and its on the back...

I'm gunna call mine a sports car.

No-one is saying that there isn't a rear hatch. Read the OP's links to the Wikipedia definitions and you'll see what he's asking about...

And I think we all agree that the 370Z is a sports car...

Wikipedia isn't the end all be all defining reference, its just one more source of information, try Google,370z liftback (About 5,630 search results),and 370z fastback (About 20,800 search results),370z Hatchback (About 471,000 search results),(About 11,700,000 search results) a 370z Coupe.

All sarcasm aside, 2 Models are available to buy a Coupe and a Roadster, the car manufacturer doesn't refer to it as a hatchback, liftback or fastback, only a Coupe or a Roadster.

Nissan does sell a VERSA Hatchback though, but its not quite as sporty as the Z, but I'm sure all the Versa owners would disagree.

PapoZalsa 05-27-2010 07:50 PM

This is an interesting thread.

sonic370 11-02-2012 08:59 PM

a pain in the xss when you need to load a set of clubs and a cooler of cold ones

LakeShow 11-02-2012 09:04 PM

It's a Grand Touring.

urdeliveryguy 11-02-2012 09:53 PM

im gonna stick with fastback... although technically your wiki link states that a true fastback has no angle/slope change from the window down void of any rear deck looking stuff.... which we kinda have.

a fastback can be a hatchback... but not all hatchbacks can be a fastback.

Magic Bus 11-03-2012 02:53 AM

How about we create a new term and call it the Kardashback! Just sayin........
