Default Custom Machined Parts For Your 370Z

Just picked up a 2009 370z 6mt sport last Saturday, and I have to say this is the most exciting car I have ever owned. I can't believe how quick it is, even in the higher gears, and how hard you can push it through the curves. Anyway, I'm sure you all know how great the car is...

For the last eight years I've been working in a precision machine shop as a CNC programmer/ set-up man. During that time I've undertaken a few personal hobby projects when I had the time, and of course a worthy cause.

The Z is most defiantly a worthy cause.

I am a damned good machinist, with access to top of the line equipment and CAM software. However I lack the creative vision, and automotive knowledge base it takes to design great components.

I'm looking for some ideas of parts you guys would like to see available for the 370Z. I'm thinking more like aesthetic upgrades as opposed to performance upgrades.

Example: Replace the interior plastic door handles with billet aluminum ones that are exactly the same as the stock ones, only they match the exterior handles as far as color and feel. ( maybe this part exists already??? )

I like to work in aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper and to a lesser extent firmer plastics. Prefer mill work, but lathes available. Electroplating and anodizing etc...available.

Check my photo album for pictures of some of the parts I've made for various industries as well as the machines at my shop.

If there's anyone on the forum with a history in CAD, design, GD&T, or just plain good ideas I'd appreciate their input.

Here's the kicker. If you help me design a part, and I actually end up making one for my car, I'll send you one for your car as fair trade for your help.

Cool, no they don't have those door handles yet. If you made them smooth, That would be a cool mod.

There are a lot of people looking for brake cooling ducts. If you can mfg some bracketing that attaches to the brakes somehow and gets air flow to them, you would be successful. I would be happy to be a guinea pig.

Can you make me "Supercharged" badges or door sill inserts in cursive letters?

E-brake and shifter surrounds in aluminum would be cool.

Could you make some underbody bracing?

I'd be happy to test any of these ideas out.

Brake cooling ducts and under body bracing might be a bit beyond my grasp at the moment, I've only had the car a week, and in that time only looked underneath once... but badges and door sills and such are right up my alley.

I assume your talking about replacing the front and rear Nissan logo? That could definitely be done. It's all about making a blank copy of the badge, then you can engrave what ever the hell you want on it. Same goes for the sills.

I thought it would be cool to make a Datsun badge for the 370z

I found this web site
3d model Nissan badge 3ds fbx max obj by istratebogdanpeter
which sells a 3D computer model of the Nissan badge, (dont know if this is the same dimensions as the 370z badge I'm just using it as an example)

Anyway, what I'm getting at is that this model would eliminate the reverse-engineering and trial and error required to produce a copy, which makes my job a whole lot easier If anyone knows of a place where I can obtain similar models or schematic drawings of the original parts Things could get rolling a lot faster. Other wise in the case of the badges I'd have to get hold of a new set to take my dimensions from as I'm not too keen on tearing off my badges without having the replacement ones in hand. Do you know how much it costs for a new set?

Something a bit easier perhaps but still addressing the brake cooling. How about some flanges that attach (inside) to the outboard side of the fangs. Essentially something to clamp a hose to. Anodized black aluminum or how about black delrin?

To keep going on this idea another flange that would allow for a clean pass through the fender well would be great!

Thanks

if all else fails i MIGHT be able to boot up my old CAD software and help you with modeling, but i'd need parts to model off of, etc.

Int / Ext Door handles & All Ext logos to match the gunmetal wheels would really set off a 40th... Keep my name on file if you start any of producing these....

Maybe you can team up with "ModShack" to help mass produce some parts (i.e., custom intake).

how badass would an aluminum engine cover look? that seems easily doable if you have machining skills.
