They don't though. No trademark on file. The only thing that protects it is copyright law, and since it can be shown in court that the Z itself probably drew elements from other previous copyrighted works, Nissan wouldn't have a chance in hell at winning.

Besides, the last thing Nissan wants to do is sue somebody for producing aftermarket parts for one of their cars. That's probably one of the worst things they could ever do for public image in the eyes of people like us.

yah, but the nissan executives driving arround ferrari's might not care. :D

Lemers 07-27-2010 06:17 PM

Here's the thing. Nissan would only sue if they wanted to make and sell the part or if they feel they could lose controll for the trade mark. Why risk losing a costly court battle that would result in losing the Z tm if there is nothing to gain. Mostly likely Nissan would just keep send threat letters.

wow, what a crock of ****.

first he comes on here, wanting to just make a set of diy emblems for himself, and then when people want to buy them, he wants ~$500 a set? It doesn't cost much more to program the cnc machining to do 2 more runs.

People on diyaudio.com spend countless hours making electronic circuits and circuit board drawings and give out the files and schematics, FREE! to help the community. AG just comes off as being greedy.

I've worked with screw machine shops before. I work with a place in El Segundo, Ca.

You just bring them a cad file, or a drawing with dimensions and they will do the rest. $120 an hour to program the CNC machine, and material cost (aluminum). The larger quantity you make, the cheaper each part will be.

I had them make some custom aluminum fuel rails for carbs. I took them a piece of paper with a hand drawing and measurements, and they did they rest. It cost $1100 to do a run of 120 fuel rails. That's a cost of $9 EACH!!!!

if anyone has the file for the design here I could run it by some friends of mine. No promises or anything but wouldnt hurt?

Jordo! 08-09-2010 02:06 PM

Funny enough, no one has made any of these... :(

WarmAndSCSI 08-09-2010 02:15 PM

If somebody provides me with a set of OEM badges (or just one if the front and rear are identical), I could get the ball rolling on a hard prototype.

I suppose I can pick up some from the dealership, but I'm definitely not going to pull my stock ones off unless that's the only way.

I would like to see a footrest pedal made. About 4" tall and fit over the existing left footrest, mounted with either double sided tape or screws. You could machine it out of aluminum or even plastic and add a Z appropriate design to it. Anodize in the color of your choice if aluminum.

The footrest in the Z is too far away, it should be flush with the brake and/or clutch pedal imo. What do you think? Stupid idea?

Jeffblue 08-09-2010 02:31 PM

i feel like people just want Z badges that fit, bottom line. IF the ones from the z store fit, we wouldn't have a problem.

I was talking to scruffydog awhile back, and he has the tech info for them. Great designs! I tried to hook him up with another forum member that had some machining capabilities, but nothing came of it. So you might want to pm him. Worth a shot.

Firstly, this isn't meant as a criticism of any individual.

Having read this entire thread from start to finish, it's indeed sad to see the best and worst emerging: -

The best: the initial rush of passion and enthusiasm and encouragement offered.

The worst: how misunderstandigs can escalate and become something that none of the parties ever intended.

Result: bitterness, disharmony and nothing accomplished.

Sad that it went this way - a real shame to see.

However, on a positive note, the cameraderie of this forum is something else and I am enjoying being a part of it.

Thanks.

I agree a 1000%! Any idea to eliminate the plastic emblems I'm for! Brushed or Polished Aluminum would be great in #1 or #2.

Lemers 01-25-2011 02:35 PM

Don't bring this back up. This thread died when it was decided that the cost was too much to make these parts on this small scale.
